A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that the Ukrainian Air Force carried out a number of strikes throughout Crimea on 24 March 2024. One of the targets was the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) Communications Centre, located in Sevastopol, Crimea.

Analysis of imagery identified one building had been structurally damaged, including a partial roof collapse, and two additional buildings had suffered blast damage. Two Ropucha-class landing ships, tanks and one Yury lvanov-class intelligence ship were also damaged in the strikes.

Due to strikes of this nature, Russian vessels of a higher value, which would ordinarily use port infrastructure in Sevastopol, have been forced to deploy to alternative port facilities further east. Despite Russia's attempts to limit its losses, Ukraine continues to demonstrate success in diminishing the Black Sea Fleet's ability to project power in the region.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that during the past day, there have been 72 combat clashes.

In total, Russian forces struck 38 rockets and 75 aviation strikes, carried out 98 shelling from the reactive systems of volcano fire on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements. As a result of the Russian attacks, unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population. A number of multi-storey buildings, medical facilities, cars, a school, kindergarten and other civilian infrastructure facilities have suffered destruction and damage.

At night, Russian occupiers again attacked Ukraine, using bpla type "Shahed" and winged missiles of different types. Data on the attack are being clarified.

During the past day, the settlements of Kyrykivka Sumy region suffered air strikes; Bochkove, Uspenivka, Khrypuni, Izumsk, Zybine, Lyman of Kharkiv region; Novoyegorivka in Luhansk region; Terni, Yampolivka, Andriyvka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivsk, Alexandropil, Karlivka, Kurakhove, Berdychi, Nevelske, Novobakhmutivka, Mezhove, Yasnobrodivka, Krasnogorivka, Konstantinivka, Staromayorsk Donetsk region and; Nuts, Novodanilivka and Robotine in Zaporozhye.
About 120 settlements of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
In the Volyn and Polish directions, the operating environment remains without significant changes.
In the Siver and Slobozhansky directions, Russia maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts diversionary activities in order to prevent the transfer of Ukrainian troops to threatening directions, increases the density of mine-explosive fences along the state border.
In the kupâns комуkomu direction, Russian aggressive (storm) actions did not lead.
In the Limansky direction, Ukrainian soldiers fought off 16 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Terny Donetsk region and Bilogorivka in Luhansk region, where the Russian enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 4 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Klishchiyivka and Andriyivka of Donetsk region.
In the Avdiyiv direction, Ukrainian defenders hit 20 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Berdychy, Umanske, Tonenke, Semenivka, Pervomaiske and Nevelske, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to knock out Ukrainian units from the occupied borders.
In the Novopavlivsk direction, the Defense Forces continue to restrain Russian forcesin the areas of the settlements of Krasnogorivka, Georgiyivka, Novomykhailivka and Vodyane Donetsk region, where Russia has 25 times tried to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops.
In the Orykhiv direction, Russian forcescarried out 4 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Staromayorsk Donetsk region and the northwest Palm Zaporizhia region.
In the Kherson direction, Russia does not refuse the intention to knock out Ukrainian units from placdarmív on the left bank of the Dnieper. Attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops 3 times during the past day.

Over the past day, the Defense Forces has struck 1 control point, 1 air defense device and 10 areas of enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment.

The rocket troop units affected 2 areas of focus, two air defense and to the Russia's artillery.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the previous night, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a high-precision strike using a long-range air-, sea-, and ground-based, to include Kinzhal hypersonic air-launched ballistic missiles along with unmanned aerial vehicles against power and air defence facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The goal of the strike has been achieved. All the targets have been engaged.

In Kupyansk direction, units of the Zapad Group of Forces repelled four attacks launched by assault groups of the AFU's 95th Air Assault Brigade and 123rd Territorial Defence Brigade near Terny (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 30 Ukrainian troops and two motor vehicles.

In addition, one Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery system, one Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, one Giatsint-S self-propelled gun, one D-20 howitzer, and one Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system have been eliminated.

In Donetsk direction, units of the Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 28th, 54th, 93rd Mechanised, 81st Airmobile, 5th Assault, 79th, 80th Air Assault Brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine close to Belogorovka (Lugansk People's Republic), Andreyevka, Antonovka, Kurdyumovka, Krasnogorovka, Nikolayevka, and Chasov Yar (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to more than 300 Ukrainian troops, one tank, five armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, and three motor vehicles.

In the course of counter-battery warfare, two D-20 howitzers, one D-30 gun, one UK-made L-119 howitzer, one Nota electronic warfare station, as well as three AFU field ammunition depots were neutralised.

In Avdeyevka direction, the units of the Tsentr Group of Forces have improved the situation along the front line. They defeated the enemy formations and repelled eight counter-attack attacks launched by the assault groups of the 25th Airborne, 24th, 47th 59th Mechanised brigades of the AFU near Pervomayskoye, Novogorodskoye, Tonenkoye, and Berdychi (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to more than 305 Ukrainian troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, and four motor vehicles.

In counter-battery warfare, one German-manufactured PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery system, two D-30 howitzers, and one Bukovel-AD electronic warfare station have been neutralised.

In South Donetsk direction, the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of the 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as on the 102nd, 128th Territorial Defence Brigades near Malinovka (Zaporozhye region), Makarovka and Urozhaynoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the 127th Territorial Defence Brigade was repelled near Priyutnoye.

The enemy suffered up to 90 Ukrainian troops, two motor vehicles, and one Nota electronic warfare station during the day.

In Kherson direction, the units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on the 65th, 118th Mechanised brigades, 35th Marine brigades, and 121st Territorial Defence Brigade near Rabotino (Zaporozhye region), Zolotaya Balka and Ivanovka (Kherson region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 70 Ukrainian troops, two tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, and two pickup trucks.

In counter-battery warfare, one Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system and one D-20 howitzer have been hit.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have eliminated one S-300 SAM system's radar, as well as AFU manpower and hardware in the 131 areas.

Air defence systems shot down 175 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles and shot down 21 HIMARS and Vampire MLRS projectiles during the day.

In total, 577 airplanes and 270 helicopters, 17,658 unmanned aerial vehicles, 489 air defence missile systems, 15,642 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 1,256 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 8,573 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 20,343 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.


Ukraine update for the past 10 days: Russia has continued gradual advances west from Bakhmut primarily in the direction of Chasiv Yar. They have also attacked to the northwest of Klishchiivka. South of Avdiivka, Russia has moved deeper into Pervomais'ke. Ukraine has regained positions lost in and around Nevel's'ke, after recent ???? advances. Russia has advanced closer to the settlement of Bilohorivka located near Lysychansk.
