A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Russia's role as a reliable arms exporter is highly likely being undermined by its invasion of Ukraine and international sanctions.
Even before the invasion, Russia's share of the international arms market was declining. Now, when faced with conflicting demands, Russia will almost certainly prioritise deploying newly produced weapons with its own forces in Ukraine over supplying export partners.
A shortage of components is likely affecting the production of equipment for export, such as armoured vehicles, attack helicopters, and air defence systems. In addition, Russia's ability to sustain support services for existing export contracts, such as providing spare parts and maintenance, is likely to be seriously disrupted for at least the next three to five years.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that during the day, Russian forces launched 2x missile strikes on the civilian infrastructure of Kramatorsk (Donetsk oblast). The strikes resulted in casualties among civilian population and damage to 13x two-story buildings, 3x four-story buildings, a children's clinic, a school, garages and cars.
Moreover, Russian forces carried out 3x air strikes and more than 15x MLRS attacks that in particular, targeted civilian objects in the settlement of Komyshany (Kherson oblast). As a result, 4x people got injuries, including a 5-year-old kid. The occupiers caused damage to civilian infrastructure in the city of Ochakiv (Mykolayiv oblast).
The threat of further Russian air and missile strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The Russian adversary continues active reconnaissance and preparation for an offensive on certain axes, carrying out measures to strengthen its troops. Offensive operations continue on Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka axes. Russia sustains heavy losses, and keeps loosing troops. On other axes, the Russian occupiers stay on the defensive.
Volyn, Polissya, Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: no Russian offensive groups were detected. Russian units are being trained on the training grounds of the Republic of Belarus. Joint military exercise of the aviation component of Russia-Belarus regional grouping has ended. Russian aviation grouping has been reported to return to its permanent bases.
Russia continues to shell Ukrainian settlements along national border, causing casualties among civilian population and damage to private property. The Russian occupiers shelled the vicinities of Klyusy and Yeliny (Chernihiv oblast); Murawayni, Studenka, Katerynivka, Vovkivka, and Volfyny (Sumy oblast); Veterynarne, Kozacha Lopan', Strilecha, Hlyboke, Ternove, Starytsya, Hatyshch, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, and Okhrimivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Russia is preparing to conduct covert mobilization on the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk oblast of Ukraine. In particular, all public sector and communal organizations in Horlivka were ordered to submit lists of persons with reservations on mobilization to local Russian military commissariat. All these people are going to be examined by special commissions with subsequent conscription into the Russian forces ranks.
In the Tavilzhanka area, Kup'yans'k district, Kharkiv oblast, Russia is preparing to destroy the road infrastructure, mine bridges, dams, and crossings.
