Ukraine - F-16 Training 2024
Ukraine asked the United States and other countries to step up pilot training on F-16 fighter jets, as under the current arrangement, training of aviators to fly the jets that will soon be gifted to Kyiv is not enough. Politico wrotes about it 06 June 2024. Ukraine says it has 30 pilots who are eligible to begin training in the US immediately. However, the administration of US President Joe Biden has informed Kiev that there are not enough training places in the Arizona program to accommodate more than 12 trainee pilots at a time. Two other facilities in Denmark and Romania have a similar problem with available training places.
According to the publication, during a series of meetings over the past few weeks, Ukraine has formally asked the United States to train an additional number of pilots at the Morris National Guard base in Tucson, Arizona. US lawmakers also pressured the administration to approve more training. Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Belgium plan to send more than 60 American-made F-16 aircraft to Kyiv this summer. The Ukrainians argue that being able to fly more F-16s will help Kiev push Russian forces away from the front lines in places like Kharkiv, where Moscow has advanced in recent weeks. However, the US has said it does not expect the jets to change the rules on the battlefield.
