2nd Army Corps - 2nd AK
The 2nd Army Corps is smaller in size than the 1st Army Corps, it consists of only four line brigades, of which one belongs to the 1st Army Corps, but is operationally subordinate to the 2nd Army Corps. The total length of the line of demarcation within the zone of responsibility of the 2nd Army Corps is 158 km, of which a significant part is in urban areas or areas with natural barriers that are extremely difficult to move.
The composition of the 2nd AK (military unit 77077) includes:
- 2nd Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 73438);
- 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 74347);
- 7th Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 08807);
- 6th OMSP (military unit 69647);
- separate commandant's regiment (military unit 44444);
- 10th OABR (military unit 23213);
- OTB (military unit 64064);
- ORB (military unit 55055);
- separate security battalion (military unit 73604);
- OZRDn (military unit 13931);
- separate battalion of material support (military unit 14941);
- separate company of EW / RER / UAV (military unit 05776);
- separate engineering and sapper company (military unit 11011).
IThus, in general terms, the organizational and staffing structure of the 2nd Army Corps corresponds to the structure of the 1st Army Corps, which is due to the formation of both corps on the Russian model and the requirement of the command of the RF Armed Forces to ensure the integration of these formations into the structures of the Russian army. Despite the "compactness" of the corps (and perhaps precisely for this reason), the units of the 2nd AK are better manned (with the exception of the 7th Motorized Rifle Brigade) and generally have a higher combat capability than the 1st AK.
7th Motorized Rifle Brigade
The defense area of the 7th Motorized Rifle Brigade includes Debaltseve, a critically important railway junction, which, according to the Minsk agreements, should be under the control of the government of Ukraine. Most of the defense area is impassable for heavy equipment areas of terrain with elevation changes, beams, and the like.
The only area where you can develop an offensive in both directions is the Bakhmut-Debaltseve highway. From the side of the territory controlled by the Environmental Protection Agency, the route runs into Svetlodarskaya and Mironovskaya thermal power plants of operational importance. On the other hand, the water barrier makes such an offensive unlikely.
The 7th Motorized Rifle Brigade is characterized by a high level of infantry combat training and, at the same time, extremely low discipline. The number of personnel relative to the regular does not exceed 50%.
6th OMSP
6 OMSP ("Cossack Regiment named after Platov") relies on settlements, in particular Stakhanov, Pervomaisk, Irmino. The regular structure of the regiment is not known for certain, but in general the unit has a low, typical Cossack combat capability. In the zone of responsibility of the regiment from the side of the JFO is the important highway Popasnaya - Bakhmut, which is the only dangerous direction in this area for offensive operations by the Russian Federation.
2nd Motorized Rifle Brigade
The 2nd Motorized Rifle Brigade is based in Luhansk. Due to its convenient location and actual non-participation in hostilities, it has a record for both AKs, the staffing - within 80%.
4th Motorized Rifle Brigade
The 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade (including the Prizrak battalion) and the 2nd Motorized Rifle Brigade have a structure typical of both AKs. Their defense area for 80% along the front runs along the Seversky Donets River, which sharply limits combat activity in this direction.
