Soviet Istrebitel (Fighter) Designations
From the mid-1920's until into the 1950's, Soviet fighter (istrebitel) aircraft were given an official designation consisting of the letter "I" and a sequence number. The Istrebitel (Fighter) military designation of the aircraft was sometimes re-used for different aircraft.
