Project 1135 Burevestnik
Krivak class Frigate
Of the 32 Krivak's that were constructed in the 1970s and early 1980s only 9 remained in the Russian Navy in 2003, with five Krivak-Is being decomissioned between 2003 and 2004. As of 2008 IISS reported that two Krivak I and two Krivak II remained in service. The identity and status of the two Black Sea units was clear, the others less so. It was anticipated that the others would be decommissioned within the following few years. Indeed, by 2012 only two units of this once numerous class remained in service with the Navy, and three with the Federal Border Guard [ex KGB, but there are no former Chekists].
