Chinese Ship Numbers

Although the Chinese Navy does not necessarily have a name for every ship, there must be a ship's number, although the ship's number may change. According to the ship naming regulations, the ship's ship's number ranges from two digits to five digits; the ship's ship's number is in principle shown by two or three digits, and the ship's ship's number often has four digits and five digits. The digits appear, however, regardless of the ship or the boat, it is displayed in the form of a phrase followed by a serial number.

According to the naming customs of the Chinese navy, the general warships are all three-digit, the small ships are four-digit, and the training ships use two-digit numbers, such as the Zhenghe ocean training ship, the number 81, Shichang No. National Defense mobilization ship, number 81. The functions of combat and training, especially the training function, are the main functions of the first aircraft carrier platform after entering the service. According to experts, the three-digit number is the combat ship and the two-digit number is the training ship. China's first carrier carrier number "16" indicates that the aircraft carrier is mainly used for training and research.

The ship's number is assigned according to the classification of the ship:

  • 1X is an aircraft carrier
  • 8X is a training ship
  • 1XX is a destroyer
  • 2XX are conventional submarines
  • 3XX are conventional submarines
  • 4XX is a nuclear submarine
  • 5XX are frigates
  • 6XX are frigates
  • 7XX is a escort boat, etc.
  • 8XX is a minesweeper, supply ship, etc.
  • 9XX is a landing ship, etc.
  • 33-headed air cushion landing craft
  • The boats below 500 tons starts with the X prefix, the X1 prefix is the missile boat, the X2 prefix is the torpedo boat, the X3 prefix is the escort boat, and the X5 prefix is the landing craft.
  • Training ship number is two digits

Logistic supply ships, small ships and other auxiliary ships also use three-digit models, but the first number does not start with 0, but other numbers, for example, type 271 (small landing craft); type 595 (acoustic research ship) ); Types 614 and 645 (Xiangyanghong series); Type 633 (Bay Engineering Barge); Types 625, 635, 636, 646 (measuring ship); Type 639 ( two-body measuring ship); 643, 718 (Yuanwang series) ; Type 648 (submarine repair ship); Type 679 (training ship); Types 722, 726, 727 (air cushion landing craft); Type 744 (lighthouse supply and cloth marking ship); 813, 814 and 815 Type (electronic intelligence ship); 904, 906, 907, 909 (survey scientific research ship, test ship); 917 (three-body high-speed rescue boat); 920 (hospital ship); 922, 925, 930, 946 Type (submarine ship rescue ship, submarine support ship); 903 ~ 905 type (integrated supply ship); 988 type (water acoustic work boat).

In recent years, the Chinese Navy has been developing at a rate of "serving a fleet, launching a fleet, and starting a fleet" every year. The situation is gratifying, but the rapid development has brought a series of problems. For example, there are not enough numbers. The most typical example is the 056 series light frigate. According to the previous rules of the Chinese Navy, the frigate's ship number is the three digits at the beginning of the 5th, but since the 054 series and the 056 series are relatively large in construction, the 056 series is built in more than 50 ships. The final result is The three digits at the beginning of 5 are not enough. The latest service type 056 frigate has begun to use the three digits starting with 6 as the ship number.

Whence 16 for the Liaoning?

As for the number of the first carrier of the Liaoning Province, the number of the ship number is 16. There are several lines of speculation as to the source of this number:

  1. The number 16 represents 16 coastal provinces ( cities ) and planned cities in the mainland. Namely: Hainan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Shenzhen, Fujian, Xiamen, Zhejiang, Ningbo, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, Qingdao, Hebei, Tianjin, Liaoning, Dalian.
  2. Admired Liu Huaqing, known as the "Father of the Chinese Aircraft Carrier", was born in 1916. Possibly the PLAN used the year 16 of the general's birth as the ship's number of the first aircraft carrier to express their respect for him, highlighting the general's construction of the modern navy and promoting the aircraft carrier. A major contribution to the project, General Liu Huaqing had been serving in the Navy since the liberation and made tremendous contributions to the development of the Chinese navy. As early as the 1970s, he realized the importance of the aircraft carrier, proposed the idea of China to engage in aircraft carriers, and did a lot of things for the future development of aircraft carriers. Therefore, General Liu Huaqing is known as the father of the Chinese aircraft carrier.
  3. Xu Zengping, who bought the former ship's predecessor, the Varyag, once said that this is because the Varyag was originally decided to buy, and the modification was completed and delivered to the Navy. It took 16 years to complete. He Pengfei, the son of Marshal He Long, was originally asked to buy the Varyag, was the deputy commander of the Navy at the time, in 1996. Because the state was not unified about whether to engage in aircraft carriers, it was not convenient for the stateto come forward. So they turned around and found Hong Kong businessman Xu Zengping, let him come out to buy the Varyag in a private name. From this point on, after complicated and long-lasting negotiations, the arduous and tortuous process of dragging back, and then to the complex modification, the Varyag was refitted in 2012 and delivered to the Navy, named Liaoning Ship, No. 16. This process happened to be 16 years.

The above statement, either for the purpose of expressing respect, or for the association of associations, or for the purely imaginary reverie.
