Chinese Navy - NATO Names

The NATO naming system headed by the US military is based on the habit and convenience of ship identification. It is the name of the ship's class, and the first ship name of the ship. It should be a matter of course, but because the name of the second- and third-level surface ships of the Chinese Communist Party is often named after the city, it would be confusing if the first ship is used as the class of the ship. The early conception was named after the words of the ship's first factory location and delivery location, main activity base, region or nature prefix. However, the early level naming method was applicable in the case of a small ship production.

Later, when various types of ships increased, it was found that it was often unreasonable to have to think to find the right phrase. Gradually the level of naming was deviated from the original. Conceived, but basically the prefix of the phrase is retained between the same type ships. For example, the level of all destroyers starts with the word "Lu" ["Brigade"] Chinese navy's frigates have all started with the Jiang word, such as the Jianghu class and the Jiangdong class. As for the newly-built submarine level of the Chinese Communist Party in the past 10 years, it is named after the Chinese historical dynasty. It is completely out of the concept of early naming, and has nothing to do with the shipyard and the activity area.

The names of submarines belong to China's dynastic history names, such as Song-class and yuan-class, the only exception is one hull built by R conventionally powered submarine missile submarine class facelift designed and manufactured -- Expedition 51 No boat (SS351) - it is named Wuhan. Hunting submarines and anti-submarine escort boats start with “sea”, such as Hainan and Haiqing; torpedo boats and missile escort boats start with “Shanghai”, such as Shanghai-built and Shanghai-new classes. The newly built sweeping and hunting mines all begin with the word "vortex", such as the vortex sweep, the vortex pool level; most of the landing ships start with the word "jade", such as Yuting class and jade level; training ship, newly built measuring ship and weapon test ship are named after "personal name", such as Zheng Hejian (MTS81), Qian Sanqiang (AGS873), Hualuogeng (AEI892) and so on.

According to NATO, the PLAN has created a new supply-ship trend. The future naming trend should shift to the level of "Fu". The landing ship is obviously all based on the word "Jade". In the logistic auxiliary ships, the submarine frigates are relatively complete in level, almost all of them start with the word "big"; other types of auxiliary ships are mostly not assigned to the level, but the PLAN's own series of ship names have become a unique level, such as "Xiangyanghong" series, "Yuanwang" series and "Reconnaissance" series.

From the research to understand the principles of the NATO naming level, to find out the naming pattern, it is often necessary to pay attention to the shipyards of various types of ships, and therefore also summarize the shipbuilding characteristics of some shipyards. For example, Dalian Hongqi (destroyer, landing ship); Guangzhou, Huangpu (frigate, aircraft carrier support ship, hospital ship, missile boat); Shanghai Jiangnan (aerospace survey ship, rescue ship, landing ship); China and Hudong Shipyard (frigate), destroyers, frigates, landing ships) ; Jiangyin Chengxi Shipyard (Xiangyanghong and Yuanwang series ) to build large surface ships. The traditional power submarine is dominated by the Jiangnan plant; the nuclear-powered submarine is dominated by the Bohai Shipyard. Shanghai Qixin Shipyard also has the ability to build large ships. However, in terms of division of labor, it has built training ships and mobilized ships in the early years. In recent years, it has mainly built hunting and minesweeping ships.

Shanghai Pudong (electronic intelligence ship); Anhui Wuhu (measuring ship, rescue ship, landing craft, hydrofoil torpedo boat); Guangxi Guijiang (surveying series, trimaran); Hubei Wuchang (landing ship, twin-body test boat) and Jiangxi River State (Haidao Survey Ship); Jiangxin Shipyard (test ship, survey ship); Hunan Changsha, Fujian Xiamen, Zhejiang Hangzhou Dahe, Anhui Fuyang and Shandong Qingdao Shipyard (landing ship) to build medium and small ships. Basically, inland shipyards mainly focus on the construction of medium and small ships, and coastal shipyards can coordinate the construction and construction of various types of ships according to the shipbuilding load and planning units. Previously listed only part of the state-run shipyard in China, many of them are made to change the military and shipyard, belonging to two groups: China Shipbuilding Industry Jituangongsi ( referred to as the CSIC ; CSIC ) and China Shipbuilding Industry Group Company ( referred to as CSSC ; CSSC).
