- RUSSIA/SUBMARINE VOA 30 Aug 2003 -- At least two sailors are dead and seven are missing, after a Russian nuclear-powered submarine sank in the northwestern Barents Sea. Defense officials say one crew member has been rescued from the decommissioned submarine, which was being towed to a scrap yard when it sank.

- ISRAEL-PALESTINIANS UPDATE VOA 30 Aug 2003 -- Israeli troops have shot dead an 8-year-old Palestinian girl in the Gaza Strip, in what the Israeli army says was an accidental killing. Her death came just hours after Israeli forces deliberately targeted Hamas activists in Gaza, killing two of them.
- ISRAEL/PALESTINIANS VOA 30 Aug 2003 -- An Israeli air force helicopter has fired missiles at a van in the Gaza Strip, killing two members of the militant Islamic group Hamas. At least nine bystanders were also injured in the raid, as Israel stepped its military operations in retaliation for a recent Hamas suicide bombing that killed 20 Israelis.
- INDIA/VIOLENCE VOA 30 Aug 2003 -- India says two Islamic militants including a top rebel commander have been killed in a gunbattle with security forces. One soldier was also killed and several others wounded in the clash. Meanwhile, Indian police killed two more suspected Islamic militants in New Delhi after a huge quantity of explosives in the capital's main railway station was found.
- INDIA/VIOLENCE VOA 30 Aug 2003 -- At least five suspected Islamic guerrillas and an Indian solider have been killed in a gun battle in Indian Kashmir, and Indian security forces believe a top rebel commander was involved in the fight. - One killed in mortar shelling along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir IRNA 30 Aug 2003 -- One person has been killed in heavy mortar shelling by Pakistani troops in some sectors of Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu since Friday night, official sources said on Saturday.
