One killed in mortar shelling along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, Aug 30, IRNA -- One person has been killed in heavy mortar shelling by Pakistani troops in some sectors of Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu since Friday night, official sources said on Saturday. According to media reports, the Pakistani troops shelled Jhanghar and Kakal areas of Noushera sector in Rajouri for two hours Friday evening, Indian troops retaliated in the ensuring firing. Targeting Balakote sector of Poonch district from across the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistani troops resumed shelling for nearly two hours early Saturday, they said, adding the Indian side fired effectively. The person killed received splinter injuries at Balakote, the sources said, adding that casualties on the Pakistan side were not known. Intermittent small arms firing exchange also took place along the international border in some areas of R.S.Pura and Samba sectors where fencing work was continuing. No damage to property or loss of life was reported there, they said. /210 End
