TU-154B Medium-haul aircraft

The TU-154B is jet passenger airplane of medium flight range, intended for operation on routes from 500 up to 4000 km. The most mass modification of aircraft Tu-154 became modification Tu-154B. In contrast to the previous modifications on Tu-154[B] were increased resource indices due to the modifications of the construction of the airframe. The takeoff mass of aircraft was brought to 96000-98000 kg. was inculcated the improved system for control of the high-lift device of wing in the takeoff and landing regimes, it was finished fuel system, elements [PNO], the cab and so forth for purposes of further increase in the effectiveness of air transportation was accepted the solution to begin the series production of version Tu-1, calculated for 160-169 places and its converted version into the economic class in 180 places, which obtained designation Tu-2, was recomposed. For the export were delivered the aircraft Tu-154[B] all versions.

In the second-half of the 1970's for the developers of system ABSU-154 it was finally possible to bring their development to the requirements of those ensuring the fulfillment of automatic landing for the standards of the 2nd category ICAO. This system was inculcated on the aircraft of modification Tu-154B (ABSU-154 of 2 series), modifications along control system were simultaneously carried out. To the introduction to the aircraft of the type Tu-154 new, more economical engine D-30KU-154, in the hands of OKB practically was as soon as one means of reduction in the specific fuel consumptions on the aircraft - rational layout of passenger compartment. Thus appeared modifications Tu-1 in 160 passenger places, while so the converted version Tu-2 in 164-180 passenger places.

In all since 1975 to the moment of the curtailment of series output in the middle of the 80's were released 486 aircraft in three versions (Tu-154[B], Tu-1 and Tu-2) from the total number of 606 constructed aircraft Tu-154, Tu-154A and Tu-154B. Since 1975 up to the end of its serial production in middle 1980s a total of 486 aircraft were produced in three variants (TU-154B, TU-154B-1 and TU-154B-2), all variants basically differed in layout of passenger cabin and capacity.

TU-154B is the most popular modification of TU-154. TU-154B had reinforced design of wing elements, the take-off weight of the airplane was increased, many aircraft systems and the equipment were modified. The structure of piloting complex included automated control system of airplane ABSU-154-2. The base structure of TU-154B was upgraded as a result of improvement actions, which caused to higher efficiency of the aircraft as element of passenger transport system. For example, passenger capacity of TU-154B-1 reached 160-169 seats, TU-154B-2 - 180 seats. Re-equipment from one variant to another was available only at the aircraft factory. In the beginning of the 1980s practically all earlier produced airplanes had been converted under the "B" standard.

The main differences of TU-154B modifications: TU-154B-1 (1977) air conditioning system, separate control of turn of wheels, automatic wheels brake of main legs during removal, illumination of emergency exits. TU-154B-2 (1978) - radio electronic equipment (REE), angle brace of chassis was reinforced, as well as rudder brake

The aircraft TU-154B of all modifications were exported in other countries: Hungary received one TU-154B and twelve TU-154B-2; Cuba - five TU-154B-2; Bulgaria - nine TU-154B, three TU-154B-1, four TU-154B-2; Czechoslovakia- two TU-154B-2; Korean People Democratic republic- three TU-154B, one TU-154B-2; Romania - five TU-154B, three TU-154B-1, four TU-154B-2. TU-154B were being operated on routes of Russia and CIS countries.

The complex of piloting-navigation equipment provides automatic flight and automatic landing approach as per the II category of ICAO. Autonomous work of the aircraft can be achieved with the help of onboard auxiliary power-plant, which provides independent start-up of engines, work of conditioning system in cabin during parking time and taxiing the airplane, electric supply of the airplane, approbation of all systems on land without starting-up the main engines. Lateral engines are supplied with draft reverser devise, allowing to reduce run distance at landing.

Types of configuration of TU- 154B: type for short-distance flights - 169 passengers; the main tourist type - 160 passengers; mixed type with 6 places of the first class - 150 passengers. The tourist variant of TU-154B at installation of armchairs with 750 mm step allows to allocate 160 passengers. In the middle part of passenger cabin the buffet - kitchen is located. In the front part of cabin the armchairs of the first class with step 960 mm can be installed. For service of passengers of the first class the special kitchen in front part of a fuselage is equipped.
