Tu-10 (“68”)

The Tu-10 (“68”) was a modification of the serial Tu-2 with minor changes in the airframe, but with in-line engines AM-39FNV (direct injection) of 1,850 liters each. By order of the NKAP No. 268 of June 28, 45, the design bureau commissioned the introduction of the 68 aircraft into the series at the factory No. 1 in Kuibyshev. In preparing the technical documentation for the series in the design bureau, the results of tests of the prototype "68" aircraft, tests and refinement of other machines of the Tu-2 family were taken into account. In addition to the preparation and transfer of technical documentation, designers were sent from Design Bureau to Plant No. 1 to directly assist in the organization of mass production. The AB-5LV-22A three-blade screws, then replaced by the AV-5LV-166B with a diameter of 3.8 m, and later with the four-blade AB-9K-22A with a diameter of 3.6 m. The plane was four-seater. Armament: two ShVAK and three UB, bombs - up to 4 tons. First flight was May 19, 1945 (pilot A.D. Flight). Factory tests (pilot F. F. Opadchii) did not last long, until June 8, 1945, state tests continued in several stages in total until November 20, 1946. Before the last stage of state tests, some changes were made: the cross V wing was reduced by 1.5°, new AM-39FN-2 engines and four-bladed vane propellers were installed, the vertical tail area was increased, etc. In April 1947, one of the production Tu-10 aircraft successfully passed factory tests. The aircraft passed state tests and was put into mass production, but only 10 aircraft were produced (1947). In the course of state tests, the “68” was named Tu-4, but this was soon assigned to another aircraft. The aircraft was not transferred to the air force combat units and was not put into service.
