Project 1155 Fregat I Udaloy-I class
Project 1155.1 Fregat II Udaloy-II class
Guided Missile Destroyer
large anti-submarine ship (BOD)
Open sources western accounts generally track the chronologies provided by Russian sources,
but with less granulartiy, and normally offset by a year or two in either direction.
A total of 15 units were projected, of which two were broken up on stocks and 13 were launched. By the year 2020 four units were reliably reported to have been decommissioned. As of 2016, upgrades were planned for Admiral Chabanenko, Admiral Vinogradov, Admiral Levchenko, Marshal Shaposhnikov, and Severomorsk.
As of 2020, four units were clearly in service - Admiral Panteleyev, Admiral Tributs, Admiral Vinogradov, and Severomorsk. Another four units were undergoing more or less extensive modernizations and not available for service - Admiral Chabanenko, Admiral Levchenko, Marshal Shaposhnikov, and Vitse-Admiral Kulakov.
By 2019 the fleet had eight such ships. "Vice Admiral Kulakov", "Severomorsk" and "Admiral Levchenko" were assigned to the 14th brigade of anti-submarine ships of the Northern Fleet. The 36th division of surface ships of the Primorsky Flotilla of the Pacific Fleet included “Admiral Vinogradov”, “Admiral Panteleev” and “Admiral Tributs”. BOD Admiral Kharlamov had been a stationary training ship since 2004. Marshal Shaposhnikov was undergoing modernization. The ship of the project 1155.1 Admiral Chabanenko of the Northern Fleet was also located at the shipyard - it will receive enhanced weapons.
Until 2022, five BODs from the Northern and Pacific fleets were to undergo repair and very deep modernization. During the modernization, they will also consider the possibility of equipping them with Onyx prospective anti-ship missiles. Four of these are Admiral Chabanenko, Marshal Shaposhnikov, Admiral Tributs and Vitse-Admiral Kulakov. Four further units - Admiral Levchenko, Admiral Panteleyev, Admiral Vinogradov and Severomorsk - seem to be candidates for such deep modernization.
