Fast Attack Craft Squadron

This squadron operates the fast attack craft that patrol the Israeli coast. The squadron was formed in 1970 after the initial delivery of four Dabur vessels equipped with 20 mm cannons. Over the next several years, Israel made improvements to its patrol craft by upgrading engine and fuel capacity. In the late 1980s, this squadron began operating the Dvora, which incorporated numerous improvements in capability and in 1995, the first Super Dvora craft arrived in Israel.

The Navy maritime mission responsibilities include coastal patrol andinterdiction and long- and medium-range insertion of special operations forces. The Fast Attack Craft primary missions are coastal patrol andinterdiction with a secondary mission of providing support to Naval special-warfare and other special operations forces.

All vessels of The SUPER DVORA class are fast and agile, designed to attain and sustain high operating tempos. Their hard-chined planning hull minimizes slamming and provides a dry deck during high-speed runs, while maintaining stable sea-keeping attributes at all speeds. Because littoral patrol duties, by definition, require high maneuverability and shallow water capability, the propulsion and steering systems of this class of craft accommodate extremely shallow draft, and beaching operations. The SUPER DVORA is purpose designed to accomplish a diverse range of missions including off-shore patrol, EEZ control, naval intelligence, command & control, naval interdiction, as well as non-military missions such as law enforcement, search & rescue and humanitarian assistance.

The craft remains the backbone of the Israel Navy fleet of fast patrol craft carrying out a wide variety of coastal and homeland security missions day and night along Israel's coastline and territorial waters, maritime approaches, and commercial sea lanes in the eastern Mediterranean. IAI/Ramta has been supplying its line of fast patrol craft since 1974 covering all variations and classes among them the "Dabur", "Dvora", "Super Dvora Mark-1, Mark-2, and Mark-3".
