Madhya Pradesh - Background

Madhya Pradesh Madhya Pradesh is India’s second largest state by area and sixth largest state by population. The state has a complex social structure, a predominantly agrarian economy, undulating terrain, scattered settlements over a vast area, and a large population below poverty line. The state has fifty districts grouped into ten administrative divisions.

Madhya Pradesh, covering 9.5% of the area of the country, is endowed with rich natural resources, salubrious climate and fertile agro-climatic conditions. In recent years, Indian economy has changed substantially. Market forces, rather than Government, have begun to dictate investment flows across the industrial sectors. In Madhya Pradesh, investors have better options in terms of project location, infrastructure, incentives and other facilities. The State Government has laid out business friendly policies for accelerating industrialization of the state.

Industry, in Madhya Pradesh, is largely natural resources driven. It has abundant natural wealth in the form of limestone, coal, Soya, cotton, bauxite, iron ore, silica and so on. The state has a strong industrial base in sectors like textile, cement, steel, Soya processing and optical fiber. Major Central public sector undertakings: BHEL, National Fertilizers Limited, Security Paper Mill, Hoshangabad, Currency Printing Press, Dewas, Alkaloid Factory Neemuch, Ordnance Factory, Itarsi, Gun Carriage Factory Jabalpur and Nepa Mills, are also located in the state.

Connectivity is the key to economic advancement. Connectivity is the key to development. And connectivity is strength of Madhya Pradesh. The State has a well high perfect equidistant connectivity to India's metros, and other markets. Coupled with the state's vast and rich natural resources are the rich cultural heritage, an excellent quality of life, a thriving industrial base, peaceful manpower, and a progressive and investor friendly government. That sums up "Advantage Madhya Pradesh".

Madhya Pradesh has a large number of temples, monuments, mosques, sculptures and icons. Major tourist places are Pachmarhi (hill station) in the Hoshangabad district, glittering splendour of Marble rocks and roaring sound of Dhundhar Fall at Bhedaghat on Narmada river, Kanha National Park (famous for Tiger & Barasingha) and Bandhavgarh National Park with its forts. Besides these Chanderi, Jabalpur, Raisen, Orchha, Sanchi, Vidisha, Udaygiri, Bhimbetka, Bhopal and Indore are famous for ancient monuments. Major pilgrim center's are Maheshwar, Omkareshwar, Ujjain, Chitrakoot, Amarkantak, Orchha, Bhojpur and Udaipur. There are world famous temples at Khajuraho. Famous archaeological treasures are at Satna, Sanchi, Vidisha, Gwalior, Indore, Mandsaur, Ujjain, Rajgarh, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Rewa etc.

The Guptas, Sindhias and the Mughals ruled Gwalior for centuries. Then came the British. And all of these four distinct empires had four completely different cultures. And Gwalior imbibed all of these with time. The cuisines have various influences owing to its cultural and historical legacy. In Bundelkhand the cuisine is not just influenced by historic rulers and their preferences but also by geographical and climate conditions. However, what is truly unique to this region is the famed Bhundeli hospitality. Influenced by the Mughals, the Rajputs and Tribals, delectable dishes such as the Murar Ke Kebabs, Kodu Til Ka Baat (rice with black sesame) and the Bhundeli Ghost are sure to leave you completely satisfied.

The Mahalkhoshal Cuisine shares a similar culinary journey. Situated in the upper eastern valley of the Narmada, it's influenced by Rajasthani, Gujarati, Maharashtrian and a tribal style of cooking. However, it has evolved with time to suit modern taste while retaining much of its authenticity. Just sample some favourites such as the traditional Tikkis. Or, indulge in some hot Gulab Jamun. And, if that's not enough then the Meva Bati should do the trick.
