China’s third aircraft carrier, which is being built at Jiangnan Changxing shipyard in Shanghai, will be launched in 2021. In August 2013 imagery and photographs posted on Chinese military fora suggested that China had started building its first indigenous aircraft carrier. But Kanwa Information Center, a highly respected private Canadian think tank, reported that the pictures do not show an aircraft carrier. Instead, the Kanwa report — which was based on Ukraine military sources — said the vessel under construction was China’s first amphibious assault ship. But this did not pan out.
