  • 30 Dec 2002 - COALITION FORCES TARGET IRAQI AIR DEFENSE COMMUNICATIONS SITES AND MOBILE RADAR 30 Dec 2002-- In response to Iraqi threats against Coalition aircraft monitoring compliance of United Nations Security Council Resolutions over Southern Iraq, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target Iraqi military air defense communications facilities and an air defense mobile radar. The Coalition struck the communications facilities at approximately 2:30 p.m. EST; they struck the mobile radar at approximately 3:40 p.m. EST.
  • 29 Dec 2002 - COALITION FORCES TARGET IRAQI MILITARY RADAR SITES 29 Dec 2002 -- In response to Iraqi acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring compliance of United Nations Security Council Resolutions over Southern Iraq, Operation Southern Watch Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target two Iraqi military radar sites. The sites were located near Ad Diwaniyah, approximately 75 miles south of Baghdad. The strikes occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. EST.
  • 27 Dec 2002 - COALITION FORCES TARGET IRAQI MILITARY COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS 27 Dec 2002 -- In response to Iraqi acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring compliance of United Nations Security Council Resolutions over Southern Iraq, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target an Iraqi military air defense command and control system which supported highly mobile surface-to-air (SAM) missile systems. The system was located near Al Kut, approximately 95 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. EST
  • 26 Dec 2002 - COALITION FORCES TARGET IRAQI MILITARY COMMUNICATION FACILITIES 26 Dec 2002 -- In response to Iraqi acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring compliance of United Nations Security Council Resolutions over Southern Iraq, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target Iraqi military command and control communication facilities. The facilities were located near Tallil, approximately 175 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strikes occurred at approximately 12:00 a.m. EST

The site was located south of Al Kut, approximately 100 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. EST.
  • 15 Dec 2002 - COALITION FORCES TARGET IRAQI MOBILE RADAR AND CABLE REPEATER SITES 16 Dec 2002-- In response to Iraqi acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring compliance of United Nations Security Council Resolutions over Southern Iraq, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target an Iraqi mobile radar and cable repeater sites. The targets were located near An Nasiriyah, approximately 100 miles southeast of Baghdad, and Al Basra, approximately 245 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strikes occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. EST.

The facilities were located near Al Kut, approximately 100 miles southeast of Baghdad; Qal'at Sukkar, approximately 170 miles southeast of Baghdad; and Al Amarah, approximately 165 miles east southeast of Baghdad. The strikes occurred at approximately 1 a.m. EST.
  • 10 Dec 2002 - COALITION FORCES TARGET MOBILE SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE SYSTEM 10 Dec 2002-- In response to Iraqi threats against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target a mobile surface-to-air missile system. The SAM system was located south of Al Amarah, approximately 165 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately 6 a.m. EST. Target battle damage assessment is ongoing.

The facilities were located between Tallil, 170 miles southeast of Baghdad and Al Basrah, approximately 240 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strikes occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. EST

Al Amarah is approximately 165 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. EST.

One communication facility and the radar facility were located near Al Kut, approximately 100 miles southeast of Baghdad. Tallil is 170 miles south southeast of Baghd, and Al Amarah is 165 miles east southeast of Baghdad, at approximately 4:30 pm EDT.

  • 06 Sept 2002 - COALITION FORCES STRIKE ANTI-SHIP MISSILE FACILITY In response to recent Iraqi hostile threats against Coalition ships in the Arabian Gulf, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to strike a ground-launched anti-ship missile near Al Basrah, 245 miles southeast of Baghdad, at approximately 5:45 p.m. EDT.
  • 05 Sept 2002 - COALITION FORCES STRIKE AIR DEFENSE COMMAND AND CONTROL SITE In response to recent Iraqi hostile acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to strike an air defense command and control facility at a military airfield 240 miles west and slightly south of Baghdad, at approximately 2:30 a.m. EDT. Aircraft dropped precision-guided bombs on the H3 airfield. The strikes were carried out by nine American F-15 Strike Eagles and three RAF Tornado GR4 ground attack aircraft flying from Kuwait. The attack on the air defence command and control facility was the first time that a target in western Iraq had been attacked during the patrols of the southern no-fly zone. According to press reports, about 100 US and British aircraft took part in the attack, making it the biggest single operation over the country in four years.

  • 27 August 2002 - COALITION FORCES STRIKE IRAQI MILITARY COMMAND AND CONTROL FACILITY Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons to strike an air defense command and control facility near An Nukhayb in southern Iraq, approximately 2:30 a.m. EDT. As of this date there there had been more than 120 separate incidents of Iraqi surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery fire directed against Coalition aircraft.

  • 20 Aug 2002 -- COALITION FORCES STRIKE IRAQI MILITARY COMMAND AND CONTROL FACILITY Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons to target an air defense command and control facility near Al Amarah, approximately 120 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. EDT. This calendar year there have been more than 110 separate incidents of Iraqi surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery fire directed against Coalition aircraft.
  • 17 Aug 2002 -- COALITION FORCES STRIKE IRAQI MOBILE RADAR UNIT In response to recent Iraqi hostile acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target a mobile radar unit in southern Iraq at approximately 6:30 a.m. EDT.

The strike occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. EST.

  • COALITION STRIKES IRAQI OFFENSIVE AIR SITE June 14, 2002 -- In response to Iraqi attacks on Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone yesterday, aircraft from Operation SOUTHERN WATCH used precision-guided weapons today to strike facilities of an offensive command and control system at approximately 5:20 a.m. EDT.

  • COALITION AIRCRAFT STRIKE INTEGRATED AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM May 24, 2002 -- In response to recent Iraqi hostile acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to strike three components of an offensive integrated air defense system in southern Iraq at approximately 3:50 p.m. EDT today. This was the fourth verified attempt by Iraq to destroy a Coalition aircraft in the last 17 days.
  • COALITION FORCES STRIKE TWO IRAQI ANTI-AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS May 22, 2002 -- Iraqi air defenses again fired upon Coalition aircraft at approximately 3:15 p.m. EDT today. (...) In response, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons to strike an offensive aircraft and missile control center in southern Iraq at approximately 5:15 p.m. EDT. Coalition aircraft also struck an anti-aircraft missile system south of the 32nd parallel at approximately 5:15 p.m. EDT.

In response, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft, monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, used precision-guided weapons to strike an aircraft direction-finding site in southern Iraq at approximately 6:30 pm EDT.
