Operation Southern Watch
1992 Events
- 27 December 1992 -- A Southern Watch F-16 intercepted and shot down an Iraqi MiG violating the southern no-fly zone.
- 26 August 1992 -- President Bush announced Operation Southern Watch, which banned all Iraqi flights south of the 32d parallel. He imposed the new restrictions in response to Saddam Husseins attacks on Shiite rebels and civilians in southern Iraq. On 28 August, USAFE deployed four F-4Gs from the 52d Fighter Wing to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, to support the new operation.
