Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

MAZ-537 "Hurricane" - Modifications

MAZ-537A ballast tractor with metal welded platform and winch. Produced in small batches since 1964. With a mass of ballast of 15 tons, a trailer could be towed with a total mass of 75 tons along the highway and 30 tons along unpaved roads. The overall dimensions of MAZ-537A: length - 9130 mm, width - 2885 mm, height on the cabin - 2880 mm. Weight of the machine in the equipped condition is 22500 kg. The body had internal dimensions of 4562x2530 mm and a rear opening bead. The loading height was 1875 mm. In the floor of the body were hatches for access to the transmission units. At the rear, the floor of the platform had a reduced niche. Installation of arches, awning and benches was not foreseen, that is, the MAZ-537A was used exclusively in the ballast version. The winch for self-pulling was located under the body (pulling force - 15 tc, with the block - 30 tc, length of the cable - 100 m) was borrowed from the caterpillar artillery tractor ATS-59, the production of which was carried out at the Kurgan Machine-Building Plant. In the system of electrical equipment was introduced the mechanism of electric signaling of the termination of the release of the cable and the control red lamp on the instrument panel. In other respects MAZ-537A did not differ from the basic tractor MAZ-537.

MAZ-537B - chassis for the launch unit on the wheel (that is PU) 2P20 of TsKB TM for the OTRK 9K72 Elbrus. MAZ-537B entered testing in early 1961, but they could not stand it because of the insufficient strength of the frame. However, after comparative tests of wheeled and tracked PUs, the first proved to be very practical - they ensured minimum vertical acceleration when driving on different roads and terrain, had a more durable running gear, economic efficiency, less specific labor intensity of service, etc. As a result, new requirements were formulated for the machines of this purpose, and then, on their basis, the original special wheeled chassis MAZ-543, the production of which began in 1962, was created.

MAZ-537V, the release of which began in 1963, was part of the Sard-1 launch unit (STA-30) of the long-range unmanned photographic and electronic reconnaissance vehicle DBR-1 Yastreb. It was designed for towing a special two-axle semitrailer - launch pad SURD-1 (ST-30) with a total weight of up to 40 tons. From the base model, the truck differed by a backward 345 mm SSU, the vertical load on which was limited to 18 tons.

MAZ-537G differed from MAZ-537 by the presence of a winch (similar to that installed on a MAZ-537A tractor) designed to facilitate loading and unloading operations, as well as for self-hauling and pulling out stuck equipment. The winch was mounted on a frame behind the engine-transmission compartment and was closed with a rather large, box-like bonnet. The vertical load on the SSA was increased to 27 tons, and the curb weight of the vehicle with the winch was 22.3 tons. The total weight of the towed semi-trailer was 68,000 kilograms. The release of this most common modification was started in 1964. On the basis of the MAZ-537G chassis, the technical assistance vehicle MTP-A4 was manufactured.

MAZ-537D - a truck tractor, the production of which began in 1964, was equipped with a generator set and was intended for towing special semi-trailers of missile systems with a total mass of up to 65 tons. The generator set of the tractor consisted of a three-phase alternator and control gear for powering a special-purpose unit. The generator of special equipment was rotated from the power take-off box with a propeller shaft. In addition, to recharge the batteries, the installation of an autonomous charging unit AB-1-P / 30-1 was provided.

MAZ-537E - a truck tractor that differed from the MAZ-537V by the presence of power take-off from the overdrive to the drive gearbox of the alternating-current generator set. In addition, brackets were installed to accommodate the drive gearbox of the generating set, which served for the electric drive of the semi-trailer wheels with an active drive, with a total weight of up to 68 tons. It was produced in 1966.

MAZ-537K - chassis for the installation of 9T35 crane equipment with a lifting capacity of 16 tons, designed for operation in the PTRC 9K76 Temp-C. The first prototype chassis MAZ-537K in the amount of 4 pcs. were transferred to the plant "Barricades" (Volgograd) in 1965, where the crane equipment was mounted. A separate D-37M engine is used to drive the crane. The 9T35 cranes were not built in a big series, especially as during exploitation, their propensity to overturn was revealed.

KZKT-537L (MAZ-537L) - special ballast tractor, developed in 1976 by a design team of the Kurgan plant of wheeled tractors based on the MAZ-537G truck. It is designed for towing aircraft with a mass of up to 200 tons at aerodromes, towing trailers with a total mass of up to 75 tons on hard-surface roads, clearing of rubble by direct towing or with a winch. The maximum speed when towing an aircraft on a concrete surface is 20 km / h, on a ground aerodrome - 5 km / h, when towing a trailer - 65 km / h. The maximum climbable lift when towing an airplane weighing up to 200 tons on a dry hard surface was 4 °, and on dry dry ground - up to 3 °.

KZKT-537L differed from the basic model by the presence of a ballast platform, installed instead of the SSA. The metal platform of 3165x2530 mm in size had non-skirting boards, and the flooring consisted of cells for installation of regular cast iron ballast weights with a total mass of 16 tons in the form of parallelepipeds with frames for their milling. For the passage of the cable winch in the front and rear sides there were openings provided with guide rollers. On the roof of the cockpit and at the rear of the platform, aerial obstruction lights of the BANO-45 type were installed, and to communicate with the crew of the towed aircraft in the cabin of the tractor, the headset of the intercom system was located. The frame of the truck was lengthened in front and behind and equipped with two unified towing devices. To illuminate the towing points above the tugs, two FG-16K searchlights were mounted. Besides, The tractor KZKT-537L was equipped with FG-152A fog lights, special nozzles for spark arrester for exhausting the exhaust gases down and back, which reduced the gassing of the working space during the coupling-uncoupling with the towed object. with the engine YAMZ-240NM-1B (500 hp). In the future, KZKT-537L was replaced by special ballast tractor KSKT-74282.

MAZ-537P was a modernized in 1981 version of the artillery truck MAZ-537A. The truck received a new engine YaMZ-240NM-1B (500 hp), but lost the winch, which in practice was used very rarely. The platform was equipped with arcs, an awning and extra wooden boards with folding longitudinal seats, having adapted it for transportation of personnel. It is interesting that the tent had two provisions: the lower one - for the transport of goods, the upper one - for the transport of goods and people.

MAZ-537R with the installed power take-off gear and the TT-2 trailer-dissolution was used as part of the pipe-rolling enterprise PV-481, which was developed for the transportation of the pipe lugs of the oil and gas pipelines under construction and was produced in small quantities.
