- Pakistan: Security Forces Kill Senior Al-Qaeda Suspect RFE/RL 27 Sep 2004 -- Pakistani authorities have shot dead an Al-Qaeda leader accused of planning a late 2003 assassination attempt on President Pervez Musharraf and involvement in the 2002 killing of U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl. The information ministry in Islamabad says Amjad Hussain Farooqi was killed in a clash with security forces yesterday in the town of Nawabshah about 130 kilometers northeast of Karachi.

- UN/INDIA/PAKISTAN VOA 24 Sep 2004 -- The leaders of India and Pakistan have launched a fresh effort to improve the troubled relationship between the two nuclear-armed rivals. The two men met on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meeting in New York. They agreed on several confidence-building measures, including the possibility of a joint gas pipeline project.
