Russo-Ukraine War - 11 April 2023 - Day 412

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that as of 03 April 2023, Russian media reported the transfer of TOS-1A thermobaric multiple launch rocket systems to Russian airborne forces (VDV).

The highly destructive TOS-1A, which Russia designates as a 'heavy flamethrower', is typically operated by Russia's specialist Chemical, Biological and Radiological Protection Troops in Ukraine, and has not previously been formally associated with the VDV.

The transfer likely indicates a future role for the VDV in offensive operations in Ukraine. It is likely part of efforts to reconstitute the VDV after it suffered heavy casualties in the first nine months of the war.

In the Shakhtar direction during the day, Russian forces did not conduct offensive actions. They shelled the settlements of Novomikhailivka, Shakhtarske, Novoukraí вкаnka, Velika Novosílka, Vuhledar and Prečistivka of Donetsk region.
Russia continues to conduct defensive actions on Zaporizhzhya and Kherson directions. Russian forces carried out shelling at the settlements next to the line of combat. Russia continues to use medical facilities of temporarily occupied territories for its own purposes. Yes, the building of the primary medical and sanitary care center in Novopskov and the Kryakivka medical point in Luhansk region are used by the Russian occupants as a military hospital. Only representatives of Russian occupation troops can receive medical care in these civilian medical institutions.

DPR

In the Lugansk People's Republic, a militant of the national battalion "Aidar" (banned in the Russian Federation) was sentenced to 8 years in prison, found guilty of participating in a terrorist community. Zaporozhye region
