A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The UK Ministry of Defence reported that over the last four days, Wagner Group forces have taken control of most of eastern part of the Donbas town of Bakhmut. In the town centre, the Bakhmutka River now marks the front line.
Ukrainian forces hold the west of the town and have demolished key bridges over the river, which runs through north-south through a strip of open ground 200m-800m wide, between built up areas. With Ukrainian units able to fire from fortified buildings to the west, this area has become a killing zone, likely making it highly challenging for Wagner forces attempting to continue their frontal assault westwards.
However, the Ukrainian force and their supply lines to the west remain vulnerable to the continued Russian attempts to outflank the defenders from the north and south.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that during the current day, Russia made 12 aviation and 2 missile strikes across the city of Zaporozhye. The strike with the zrk c-300 took place on the object of civil infrastructure. As a result, one building was destroyed. There are no casualties and injuries among the civilians. Also Russian forces carried out 34 shelling from jet systems of bottom fire. One of them is on the object of the civil infrastructure of the city of Kherson. There are casualties among civilians, two killed and three injured. The probability of further missile strikes across Ukraine remains quite high.
Russia's main purpose still remains the exit to the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Russian occupants focus their efforts on the offensive in the limansky, bahmutsky, avdiivsky, marjinsky and shakhtar directions.
In the Volyn, Polisky, Siversky and Slobozhansky directions, the operational environment remains stable without significant changes. The Russian Federation maintains a significant military presence in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, but without the clear formation of offensive groups. At the same time, Russia continues the engineering equipment of the area in the border areas of Bryansk and Kursk regions. During the day, Russian forces carried out mortar and artillery shelling of the areas of the settlements of Red Star, Krasne, Ogírtseve, Kolodâzne, Krasne Perše, Novomlinsk and Kamyanka Kharkiv region.
On the Kupyan and Limansky directions, Russia maintains his significant military presence in the border areas with Ukraine to prevent the transfer of Ukrainian units to other directions. Also, during this day, Russian forces unsuccessfully tried to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops by firing artillery on areas of a number of settlements along the line of combat. In particular, two-year-old, grryanikivka, mas ківtívka, kislivka and sand of Kharkiv region; Novoselivsky, Nevsky, Kuzminogo and bílogorivka of Luhansk region, as well as dibrovy and rozdolivki in Donetsk region. Also, Russian forces made unsuccessful attempts of offensive actions in the areas of the settlements of Gryanikivka in Kharkiv region and the spirne of Donetsk region. Having suffered losses in manpower and technology, they fell back to his previously occupied positions.
In the Bakhmut direction, Russia does not stop the storming of the city of Bakhmut, but Ukrainian defenders give a decent section and fight back numerous attacks. Near the line of collision, Russian forces fired at the settlements of vas Поkívka, zalíznânsʹke, dubovo-vasilívka, grigorívka, bogdanívka, bakhmut, ivanívsʹke, konstantinívka, white mountain and iron donetsk region.
In Avdií неvsʹkomu, Maryinsʹkomu and Shakhtar directions, Russian forces attempted offensive actions towards the settlements of Kamianka, Severne, Pervomaisk, Nevelsʹke, Krasnogorivka and Maryinka of Donetsk region. Haven't had any success at all. Numerous Russian shelling were suffered by the areas of the settlements next to the line of collision. Among them are Berdychi, Lastochkin, Avdiivka, Vodyane, Krasnogorivka, Georgiyevka, Bogoyavlenka, Vuhledar, Zolota Niva and the Great Novosilka of Donetsk region.
In Zaporizhzhya and Kherson directions, Russia continues to defend himself. At the same time, Russia continues to carry out intensive shelling of the nearest settlements, namely: Malinovki, Gulyajpol, Gulyajpilsky, Bilogir, Maloy Tokmachki, Novodanilivka, Novoandríivka, Small Sherbaky and Kamyan Zaporizhzhia region, as well as Novodmitrivka, Mikhailivka, Dudchan, Zmíivka, Merry, Ivanivka, Antonivka, Belozerki and Dniprovsky Kherson region
Russian authorities continue measures with forced passportization of the population of the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Yes, the military leadership of the Russian Federation compulsorily requires all mobilized from previously occupied territories to sign long-term contracts for military service in the Russian army. For this, it is necessary to have a copy of the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation among the rest of the documents.
Thus the Russian invaders are trying to force to give up the so-called "passport l / dnr" for the benefit of Russian citizenship. In another case, servicemen and their families are threatened with refusal of all set payments and social security provided for soldiers of the Russian Federation.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces aviation carried out 6 strikes in the concentration areas of the occupiers' personnel and military equipment in a day, while missile forces and artillery units struck 4 Russian concentration areas of personnel, one ammunition warehouse and 2 deployment sites of the invaders' radio-electronic combat stations.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that during the night and day, the RF Armed Forces hit 114 areas of concentration of Ukrainian Army units and 75 artillery positions. In Konstantinovka and Privolye, AN / TPQ-36 and AN / TPQ-50 counter-battery radars were destroyed. Four rockets from the Uragan and HIMARS systems were also intercepted, 11 enemy drones were shot down.
At the same time, at least 100 Ukrainian servicemen, 8 armored combat vehicles, 17 vehicles, a Gvozdika self-propelled gun, and an ammunition depot of the 124th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed in total in the Kupyansk and Kherson directions during the day.
Also today, in the area of the village of Malinovka, Zaporozhye region, a storage of shells of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was liquidated by a direct hit. A column of black smoke rose above the object, which was recorded by a Russian drone.
The situation in the Donbass
In the Liman direction, the actions of the RF Armed Forces inflicted a defeat on the manpower and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of Nevsky and Chervona Dibrova, where up to 90 Ukrainian servicemen, 2 armored combat vehicles, 2 pickup trucks, a D-30 howitzer and an Akatsiya self-propelled gun were destroyed in a day.
In the meantime, more than 140 enemy soldiers, 2 armored combat vehicles, 4 pickup trucks, 3 cars and 2 D-30 guns were liquidated near Donetsk in the areas of the settlements of Zaliznyanskoye, Krasnoe and Tonenkoye.
To the west, in the South-Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions, up to 70 Ukrainian servicemen, 3 armored combat vehicles, a car and a D-20 howitzer were destroyed.
In parallel with this, fierce battles continue in Bakhmut and its environs.
