Operation True Promise 3 - Iran vs Israel

Asked whether an ‘Operation True Promise III’ against the Zionist regime is on the agenda, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, a deputy commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, told reporters at the Sharif University of Tehran on 03 November 2024 that the operation will definitely be carried out. Iran will certainly carry out a retaliatory military operation against the Israeli regime, he said. “It is not possible to comment on its details,” the general stated.

In Islam, the concept of the "True Promise" refers to the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah). This day is a fundamental belief in Islamic eschatology, signifying the final judgment of all human beings by Allah (God). It is called the "True Promise" because it is a certainty that will inevitably occur, as promised by Allah in the Qur'an.

Key aspects of the "True Promise" include:

  • Resurrection: All human beings will be resurrected from their graves to stand before Allah for judgment.
  • Judgment: Everyone will be judged according to their deeds—good or bad—recorded throughout their lifetime.
  • Recompense: Based on their deeds, individuals will either be rewarded with paradise (Jannah) or punished in hell (Jahannam).
  • Certainty of the Promise: The Qur'an emphasizes the inevitability of this even.
  • Surah Ar-Rum (30:60): "Indeed, the promise of Allah is the truth, but most of them do not know."
  • Surah Al-Ahqaf (46:16): "This is the true promise which they were promised."

Muslims believe in this as an essential article of faith, as it reflects the divine justice of Allah, who will hold every soul accountable for its actions.

On October 1, Iran responded to the Israeli assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC general Abbas Nilforoushan by launching as many as 200 ballistic missiles toward the Zionist regime’s military and intelligence bases all over the occupied Palestinian territories.

On 26 October 2024, Israel's military announced that it had launched a series of aistrikes against military facilities in Iran. Accodring to IDF spokesperson RAdm. Daniel Hagari, the strikes were "in response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel (...) The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th—on seven fronts—including direct attacks from Iranian soil." Explosions were reported to be heard in Tehran and the nearby city of Karaj. Early reports suggested that Iranian energy and nuclear facilities had not been targeted. There were three reported waves of Israeli airstrikes against Iran.

In remarks on October 27, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei emphasized the necessity of disrupting the flawed calculations of the Zionist regime regarding Iran. "They’re making a miscalculation with respect to Iran… our officials should be the ones to assess and precisely apprehend what needs to be done and do whatever is in the best interests of this country and nation. They (the enemy) must be made to realize who the Iranian people are and what the Iranian youth are like," the Leader added.

In remarks on 02 November 2024, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underscored that the actions of the enemy will not go unanswered by those who are working to fight them on behalf of the Iranian nation, and that such actions will not be forgotten. The Leader asserted that both the Zionist regime and the US will undoubtedly receive a crushing response for their actions against the Iranian nation and the resistance front.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei decried the Zionist regime as the most villainous enemy of Islam, paying tribute to the Iranian servicemen martyred in a recent Israeli act of aggression. The families of the martyrs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force, who fought against the recent vicious attack by the Zionist regime, had a meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran on November 3.

In the gathering, the Leader paid tribute to the martyrs and hailed their august standing under divine blessing, saying, “The martyrdom of these dear ones is a prominent and significant martyrdom because of defending the country and nation in direct confrontation with the Zionist regime, which is the most wicked enemy of Islam.” Ayatollah Khamenei also prayed for patience and clam for the families of the martyrs. The Iranian Army said four of its combatants were martyred during the confrontation with the projectiles fired by the criminal Zionist regime in the early hours of October 26.

The United States and the Israeli regime have reached the end of the line, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said, reminding them that they will receive a response from the resistance front in the appropriate time. “Today, it is the US that is observing its political sunset,” Major General Hossein Salami in an address to a gathering of people marking the National Day of Fighting against Global Arrogance in Tehran. He noted that the Americans and Israelis have thoroughly approached their collapse, warning Washington and Tel Aviv that the resistance forces will respond to them at an appropriate time. The commander noted that the tragic events in Gaza and Lebanon debunk American human rights, slamming the US as the root cause of political and military turmoil in the world although it claims to be advocating democracy and freedom.

Esmail Kwasari, a former senior member of the Revolutionary Guards and a member of the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament, said 03 November 2024: "All members of the Supreme National Security Council agreed on military action against Israel. The date and manner of the response have not yet been determined, but it will be carried out together with the 'Resistance Front' and will be more severe from the missile attack against Israel on October 1."

The US military announced that B-52 strategic bombers had arrived in the Middle East region from their base in North Dakota, USA. In the US, they emphasize that placing the bombers in the command area of CENTCOM, the central command of the US military in the Middle East, is a clear and unequivocal message to Iran in preparation for the possibility of another attack on Israel. This is the second time in recent weeks that the US military has deployed strategic bombers in the Middle East. In an unusual American attack against Houthi targets in Yemen on October 17, B-2 bombers were used to hit fortified and underground ammunition stores.

In recent days, it had been reported that Washington was sending various messages to Tehran against an attack on Israel, and the White House spokeswoman emphasized that "the United States will support Israel" in such a situation. The presence of strategic bombers in the region against the background of these things is of crucial importance, since they are especially critical in the event that the United States decides Help Israel attack sensitive and fortified facilities in Iran, with an emphasis on the underground nuclear facilities.

According to all estimates, the likelihood that the US will help Israel attack Iran, and especially the nuclear facilities, is low. Nevertheless, this is a whip designed to threaten Tehran against the possibility of another attack - precisely now, when Iran's air defense systems have been very severely damaged .

Iran is planning a “strong and complex” attack on Israel that will involve more powerful warheads and other weapons not used in its previous two assaults on the Jewish state this year, The Wall Street Journal reported on 03 November 2024. Tehran could launch the offensive during the transition between Tuesday’s U.S. presidential election and the inauguration held in Washington on Jan. 20, according to the report, which cited Iranian and Arab officials briefed on the plans.

The newspaper quoted Iranian and Arab officials as saying that the Iranian response includes the use of stronger warheads and other weapons and that it may target Israeli military installations more aggressively than the last time. Officials said Iran told Arab diplomats that its conventional military would participate because it lost four soldiers and a civilian in the Israeli attack. According to an Iranian official, the operation will take place after the US election but before the inauguration of the new president in January, because Iran does not want to influence the US election with its attack. The Iranian official said that Tehran might use Iraqi territory in part of the operation. Iranian and Arab officials said Iran does not plan to limit its use of missiles and drones as it did in previous attacks, and any missiles used would be equipped with more powerful warheads. In contrast, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US ambassador to the United Nations, warned last week that “the consequences would be severe” if Iran attacked Israel or the United States. The main questions that remained open at this stage were the question of timing and the question of how the expected attack will be carried out. Over the past few days, there has been a real escalation in Iran's rhetoric regarding the possible attack against Israel, including from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Khamenei said yesterday: "Israel and the US must know that their actions against Iran and the resistance front will undoubtedly be met with a severe response."

According to some reports and estimates, Iran's next attack may be carried out either or only by the pro-Iranian militias from the land of Iraq. In recent weeks, there has been a real increase in the scope and number of militia attacks against targets in Israel - both in the north, in the south and in the center of the country. The reinforcement of American fighter jets in the region may come in response to the possibility that Israel will have to face a massive drone attack again. The new American aid and support joins the deployment in Israel of the THAAD air defense battery.

The US Navy has announced the dispatch of several additional warships to the region, with special capabilities to intercept ballistic missiles. This step also comes against the background of the fear of another attack by Iran, but also due to the fact that the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln is expected to leave the area in the coming days, along with the attack group of ships accompanying it. At the same time, in the coming weeks the aircraft carrier Harry Truman is expected to arrive in the area, but a short period of time is expected, for the first time since the beginning of the war, when there will not be an American aircraft carrier in the Middle East.

Farzin Nadimi, Defense & security analyst, author, Middle East/Iran scholar, military historian, frequent media commentator, Senior Fellow of the Washington Institute, wrote 04 November 2024 "The newest round in the Iranian regime-Israel long-range fires war is near, perhaps on Tuesday evening as polls close in the US, to overshadow the winner announcement. This time the regime will likely use up to 400 missiles if not more, aiming at disabling major Israeli air bases and air defense site, but also damaging defense industries in the Haifa area.

While deployment of IRGC's top of the line Khoramshahr-4 is very likely this time alongside Fattah, Kheibarshekan and Emad, I believe one main reason ballistic missile movements have been in Iraq ia Iranian realization that its missiles do not provide sufficient accuracy from long ranges so they need to fire them from significantly closer, namely Iraq and Syria, using proven types such as Zolfaghar. Also, the national armed forces, aka Artesh, will indeed be likely involved this time, more likely using their Arash long-range suicide drones, but the possibility of employing their few operational Su-24 strike aircraft to fire standoff weapons such as cruise missiles at Israel cannot be dismissed. The IRGC has tested ALBMs in the past using its Su-22 attack aircraft, but they're less likely to be employed this time."

Operation True Promise II showcased just a “small part” of Iran’s military capabilities, Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – the force which executed Iran’s October 1 strikes on Israel, said 08 Novembe 2024. “We have engaged only a small part of our capabilities against the enemy, who brought all his talents to the field," Salami said at an event in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad.

“In the course of Operation True Promise II, we even attacked the Zionists’ base at Netzarim in the heart of Gaza, so the choice of the regime's officials is between bad and worse," Salami added. “Our war today is a detailed exhibition of the ability of the Resistance Front to confront the global enemy. If you want to see the victory of faith over weapons, you should refer to this front. While there is a disparity in weapons, the gains are in favor of the Axis of Resistance. Since Al-Aqsa Storm, there have been no significant achievements for the Zionist regime,” the IRGC commander suggested, referencing to the October 7, 2023 Hamas surprise incursion into southern Israel, which triggered the present conflict.

Axios, citing its sources, reported 02 November 2024 that Iran was preparing a retaliatory strike to the recent attack by Israel. According to the publication, Israeli intelligence expects an attack not from Iranian territory, as was the case on October 1, but from Iraqi territory by pro-Iranian groups operating under the auspices of the "Islamic Resistance of Iraq", using hundreds of kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles. Information about the preparation of a retaliatory strike is indirectly confirmed by the words of the IRGC commander Hossein Salami that "Israel made a mistake by attacking Iran" and that Iran "will give an unimaginable response to Israel."

A high-ranking commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) warned 13 November 2024 that Iran will "definitely" respond to Israel, making the regime regret its latest act of aggression against the country. IRGC Deputy Commander Brigadier General Ali Fadavi vowed that the country would deliver a response that Israel would come to regret its recent attack on Iranian targets. The official also reaffirmed unwavering support for Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement and the broader resistance front.

“During its more than 45-year existence, the Islamic Revolution has not left any vicious act unanswered,” Fadavi stated, promising a “regret-inducing response to this Israeli measure.” Speaking in Qom during a ceremony marking 40 days since the martyrdom of Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s former secretary general, and other commanders of the resistance front, Fadavi condemned the Israeli strike and stressed Iran’s readiness to retaliate. In response to a question on Donald Trump’s re-election as US president, Fadavi said Iran’s stance would remain unchanged, as the US has shown no alteration in its “evil nature.”

Fadavi emphasized Iran’s continued commitment to Hezbollah and the resistance front, underscoring the importance of support in the face of enemy actions. “Iran has fully stood by Hezbollah for more than 40 years and will absolutely continue to support the movement,” he added.

The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) told the enemies to have no doubts about Iran’s retaliation for acts of aggression against the country. “You will receive painful blows. Wait for (our) retaliation,” Major General Hossein Salami said, speaking at a major security and combat maneuver dubbed Nasrallah on 14 Novembre 2024. “We will fight you to the end and will not allow you to dominate the destiny of Muslims,” he stated.

Major General Salami said all falsehood powers have come to help the Israeli regime to force Muslims into concession, dominate their destiny, occupy their lands and pillage their religious identity. But a study of history shows that Muslims will never surrender, he underlined. He pointed out that the resistance fighters in the region are taking revenge for the enemy’s blows on the resistance commanders and youths, adding that they are standing firm and united and inflicting irreparable blows on the enemy every day. “Today we are witnessing a confrontation between light and darkness. Wherever light appears, darkness is doomed to destruction. The essence of our enemy is darkness and falsehood, and falsehood is doomed to destruction,” he went on to say.
