FV432 Bulldog APC
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced on 16 January 2023 that London will supply the Ukrainian authorities with 100 Bulldog armored personnel carriers, as well as an additional number of drones and Starstreak man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS).
"Hundreds more armored vehicles will be sent [to Ukraine], including the Bulldog," he said, speaking in the British House of Commons. Wallace added that the UK would send "dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles" to support Ukrainian artillerymen, as well as guided missiles of the GMLRS family and Starstreak MANPADS. According to the British minister, these deliveries can lead to a change in the course of the conflict in Ukraine and oust Russian troops from the territory of the republic.
Introduced in December 2006, the FV430 Bulldog was designed as an upgraded variant of the FV430 APC, to meet an urgent operational requirement for extra armoured vehicles for use in counter-insurgency campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Bulldog, or FV430 family of vehicles, is a tracked armoured personnel carrier which works in harmony with the larger tracked vehicles such as Warrior, relieving them for other duties. FV430 is the platform for a number of armored vehicles of the British Army. It has been in use since the 1960s. Most of the FV430 machines have also been decommissioned, but the 432 variant continues to serve.
Starting in 2006, the Department of Military Supply of the Ministry of Defense delivered 124 upgraded vehicles in the FV430 Mk 3 Bulldog variant for a total of 184 million pounds, which will allow the FV432 to remain in the army until the mid-2020s. This was part of a program to replace Snatch Land Rover vehicles with Pinzgauer Vector and Mastiff wheeled vehicles and FV432 tracked vehicles. New variants of the Bulldog will allow performing a wider range of tasks, thereby freeing up the Warrior APC for more complex combat work.
The FV432 Bulldog APC, currently in service with the British Army, works in the same role as the American M113 which is to transport and dismount infantry into the battlefield. With a service record similar to the Warrior IFV, FV432 is also a combat proven vehicle.
The FV430 Mk.3 Bulldog is an upgraded variant of the British Army's FV430 armored personnel carrier. Created by BAE Systems for the British military mission in Iraq in 2006. The armored personnel carrier received dynamic anti-mine protection from the Rafael company. The diesel engine and steering mechanism were also updated on the car. At the same time, the weight increased to 15.3 tons.
The most common machine is the FV432 armored personnel carrier. The Bulldog has two crew members and is capable of carrying up to ten passengers. It is armed with a 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun and has a maximum range of 480km. Bulldog variants are in service with the infantry as command vehicles, 81mm mortar carriers, ambulances, and recovery vehicles. The vehicle can also be converted for use in water and also has strong cross country performance. The Bulldog has an impressive heritage having entered service with the British Army in the 1960s. Through regular maintenance and enhancements conducted by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL), the vehicle remains a modern-day capability.
