TVZ - Tver Vagon Zavod
Tver Carriage Works (TVZ - Tver Vagon Zavod) is the largest enterprise in Russia and CIS countries for the production of various types of passenger coaches hauled by locomotives. The enterprise was founded on 25 August, 1898 with the name “Upper Volga Railway Materials Plant”. It was built at the initiative of a Franco - Belgian joint stock company “Diehl and Bakalan” in 1898. The plant was severely damaged during the occupation of the city by the Nazi troops. After the liberation reconstruction began. At the same time the enterprise began to produce artillery shells, mortars, bombs, mobile workshops and medical railway cars for the Army. Since October, 1943 by the decision of the State Committee for Defense the enterprise was included into the number of major defense enterprises of the country. The plant produced 18 designations of military products.
JSC Transmashholding is the biggest Russian company in the transport engineering industry, the world’s leader in railway engineering in actual volume of production. Transmashholding is the largest supplier of rolling stock for the world's biggest transportation company – JSC Russian Railways.
A new stage in the history of the plant Joint Stock Company “Tver Carriage Works” with a multidivisional structure was established on the basis of the Kalinin railcar industrial association in accordance with the President Decree # 721 “On Organizational Measures for Transformation of the State-Owned Enterprises and Voluntary associations of the State Enterprises into Joint Stock Companies” dated July 1, 1992.
The "Strategy for the development of railway transport in the Russian Federation", adopted by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of June 17, 2008, assumed active renewal of the rolling stock. To fully participate in the implementation of the Strategy for the development of rail transport in Russia, it was necessary to master the production of new model cars, fundamentally different from earlier models, to increase the production capacity of the plant to ensure the production of 1200 wagons a year while maintaining the existing production capacities and infrastructure of the enterprise. These works were performed in the conditions of the current production, while increasing the output of the cars, which certainly complicated the work and required the team of high professionalism.
The ideology of the technological process of manufacturing a new product provided, firstly, the creation of a highly efficient production that ensures the output of products in the volume of the long-term demand of JSCo Russian Railways; secondly, ensuring a consistently high level of product quality at all stages of its production; thirdly, the maximum exclusion of the influence of the "human factor" on complex and responsible operations of manufacturing parts and components that affect the safety of the operation of the product; Fourth, the development of flexible technologies that ensure the minimum time for production of new types of products and effective small-scale production; Fifth, the creation of harmless and safe working conditions in all workplaces, ensuring environmental safety at the enterprise and the surrounding areas.
Since August 2008, serial production of wagons in a new body of stainless steel began. To go from design to serial production of cars of a new model line, it was necessary to work hard for a large number of specialists, auxiliary workers, builders. The result of the joint work was a radical technical update of the entire production chain.
Since 2009, Tver Carriage Works actively develops new products and new cooperation mechanisms, including with the world's leading manufacturers of railway equipment. One of the significant events in the plant's activity was the signing of a contract with the world-famous Siemens concern to create new RIC-type wagons intended for international passenger transportation and designed for traffic on both Russian railways with a gauge of 1520 mm gauge and European ones with a width of 1435 mm. In the car only 8 passenger compartments, one compartment - for the conductor and one more - service. In each compartment - 4 shelf-beds, which can be transformed into 4 comfortable seats with headrests; under the window there is a folding table with a washbasin. In addition to the standard toilet, there is also a combined bathroom (toilet and shower) in the car. From 2012 to 2015, the Tver Carriage Works supplied the Federal Passenger Company with 200 RIC-sized cars. They run on different European routes: from Moscow to Helsinki, Nice, Sofia, Belgrade, Warsaw and other cities.
Since 2009, a fundamentally new type of rolling stock for Russia has been created at the TVZ: two-story triple carriage cars designed to transport passengers for long distances. This project - from the idea to its full implementation - was realized by the Tver Carriage Works. The prototype of a compartment passenger car was first introduced to the professional community in September 2009 at the II International Railway Salon of Engineering and Technology EXPO 1520, where it received high marks from the specialists of Russian Railways and transport engineering enterprises.
In addition to working with the main customer - Federal Passenger Company JSC, Tver Carriage Works actively cooperates with other partners, develops markets of other countries with a track gauge of 1520 mm, successfully participating in tenders for delivery of wagons for Kazakhstani railways, Ulan Bator Railway, Latvian railways.
