Atlanticmax 42K Arctic Shuttle
On 29 July 2015 the shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea began cutting steel for the 3rd tanker project 42K Arctic Shuttle Tanker. The new Arctic oil tanker of the ice class is built under an agreement with Sovkomflot (GFR). A series of 6 oil tankers is being built to transport oil from the Novoportovskoye oil and gas condensate field (NGKM). The construction of vessels is carried out on the RS class and the Lloyd's Register.
The length of the tanker is 232 meters, the width is 34 meters, the draft is about 9.5 meters. Deadweight - 42 thousand tons. These are not the biggest tankers, but for the shuttle route it will work. GFR has oil-loading tankers of Aker Arctic design with a deadweight of 70 thousand tons, which were also built at the shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries.
In 2015, metal cutting and keel laying took place for all 6 tankers of the current series. Completion of the construction of the 1st ship of the series, the ceremony of cutting steel for which was held on April 1, 2015, is planned for June 2016. The propulsion complex with 2 Azorpod type helical columns and a special hull shape will allow the tankers to be operated in difficult arctic conditions throughout the year. The Novoportovskoye oil and gas condensate field is located in the south of the Yamal Peninsula. Oil from NGKM is transported through the oil terminal in the Obskaya Bay near the Kamenny Cape. Part of the route of tankers that transport oil from the Ob Bay takes place along the Northern Sea Route (NSR).
Russia actively strives to import substitution in the field of shipbuilding. Back in 2013, Yu. Boyko assured that Russia would place orders in Ukraine in Mykolayiv for the construction of tankers - gas carriers worth $ 4 billion with a term until 2020. Now that all in the past, and the Nikolaevsky GCC has lost a tasty order, and Russia is developing a shipbuilding cluster in the Far East based on the Far East Zvezda plant.
