Russian Helicopters Holding (part of the Rostec state corporation) conducts type tests of the upgraded transport and combat helicopter of the Mi-35P helicopter, which were scheduled to be completed before the end of 2019, the holding press service said on 29 August 2019. “The tests are being conducted at the Rostvertol enterprise,” the Russian Helicopters said in a statement.
As the general director of the holding Andrei Boginsky, whose words are quoted in the message, noted, the Moscow Helicopter Plant named after Mil "carried out serious work on the preparation of design documentation for the modernization of these helicopters and bringing them to the most modern requirements for striking machines." "We already had the opportunity to demonstrate the Mi-35P to potential customers, and their reaction allows us to be sure that this helicopter will be in demand," he said.
“The advanced Mi-35P is a new stage in the evolution of the Mi-24, which is rightfully considered one of the best helicopters in the world. It is an export model designed primarily for countries operating previous versions of the helicopter. Mostly, our partners are in Asia and Africa. Now Rostvertol is preparing for mass production of these helicopters for export," the Rostec representative said in a statement.
In the process of modernization, the Mi-35P received a new "technical vision", a modern aerobatic complex and the ability to automatically track targets. The Mi-35P is also equipped with a modernized sighting and sighting system with a third-generation matrix long-wavelength thermal imager, a high-resolution color television camera and a laser range finder. The helicopter also installed a new digital aerobatic complex, which improved the controllability and stability of the helicopter. And the new instrument panels of the pilot and operator with modern flight and navigation instruments and helicopter indicators as part of the instrumentation equipment of the cockpit.

Also, a new digital aerobatic complex was installed on the helicopter, which improved the controllability and stability of the helicopter, automated the piloting process to simplify the pilot's actions. The modified aiming and computing complex increased the accuracy of hitting targets.
It is also possible to modify the combat vehicle for the use of Igla-S guided air-to-air missiles, as well as the President-S airborne defense complex with a laser station for suppressing thermal heads for homing MANPADS missiles. As additional equipment, the helicopter can be equipped with VOR / ILS equipment, as well as a radio range finder for measuring the distance between the helicopter and ground-based radio beacons.
Mi-35P is characterized by high flight characteristics, in particular, it can be effectively used in conditions of high temperatures and high mountains. The Mi-35M design provides the helicopter with low acoustic signature, increased combat survivability, and also reduces the complexity of maintenance.
More than 250 helicopters of the Mi-24/35 type are operated in Africa. The holding offers all interested African partners a modernized Mi-35P helicopter, an updated sighting and navigation system. Mi-35P can be used in the combat version for the destruction of tanks and armored vehicles, in the landing - for the transport of eight military personnel, as well as in the sanitary and transport versions. Significantly improved handling of the helicopter, optimized composition of its weapons. Mi-35P can be used in high altitude conditions, in hot and humid climates, day and night.
