Cossack Combat Units (peacetime) by 1914
The Cossack military units that were in active service were mainly part of army formations. During hostilities, if necessary, they were reduced to Cossack formations, mainly brigades and divisions. In some Cossack troops, the brigade administration existed in peacetime, being an administrative body. Consolidated Cossack formations were also created, which included regiments of various Cossack troops.
In 1817, under the Siberian linear Cossack army, the Cavalry Artillery Brigade was formed, disbanded in 1865. In 1841-1914. There was an Orenburg Cossack artillery brigade. In 1845, the regiments of the Caucasian linear Cossack army were consolidated into ten brigades, of which the 7-10th were assigned in 1860 to the Terek Cossack army, and the 1-6th - in 1861 to the Kuban Cossack army, in which at the same time formed the 7th brigade; all these brigades were disbanded in 1870. In 1851, foot brigades of the Transbaikal Cossack army were formed, disbanded in 1872. In 1856-1880. there was an Amur Cossack brigade consisting of 2 cavalry regiments.
In 1875, a Separate Don (since 1877 - the 1st Don) Cossack division was formed. In 1876, from 4 Cossack regiments located in Transcaucasia, the Consolidated Caucasian Cossack division was formed, disbanded in 1878; its regiments became part of the 1st-3rd Caucasian cavalry divisions. In 1883, the 2nd Caucasian Cavalry Division was renamed the 1st Caucasian Cossack Division, and the 3rd Caucasian Cavalry Division was renamed the 2nd Caucasian Cossack Division. In 1889, the 2nd consolidated Cossack division was formed from the Don, Kuban and Terek regiments. In 1893, the Foot Plastun Brigade of the Kuban Cossack Army was formed.
During the military operations in China in 1900-1903. The Siberian Cossack division and the Consolidated Cossack brigade of the South Manchurian detachment were formed. In 1901, the 1st Turkestan Cossack division was formed, which included regiments of various Cossack troops, and in 1903 - a separate East Siberian Cossack brigade,
During the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 a number of temporary Cossack formations were formed. These are the Trans-Baikal, 4th Don, Consolidated Caucasian, Orenburg and Siberian divisions and the 2nd Kuban plastun brigade; in 1910 the 3rd Caucasian Cossack division was formed.
During the First World War, the Consolidated Cossack Corps, the Guards Cossack and the Separate Consolidated Cossack Brigades were formed. New brigades and divisions have been formed in the Don, Trans-Baikal, Kuban, Orenburg, Siberian, Terek and Ural troops. All of them took part in the battles on different fronts, disbanded in 1916-1918.
