Be-32 convertible military transport (USSR 1966)

The convertible Be-32, the first with such a name, is not to be confused with the Be-32 passenger aircraft of 1968, with the Be-32 short-take-off and landing aircraft design with a swivel wing and lifting engines of 1970 and passenger resuscitation aircraft Be-32 and Be-32K already in 1993.

For five years, from 1965 to 1970, work on aircraft with vertical or short take-off and landing was also carried out at the Georgiy Beriyev Taganrog Design Bureau. In the mid-1960s, the Beriev Design Bureau in Taganrog was working on a number of convertoplan projects. The convertoplane was a machine with a single fin tail, the high-profile scheme with a tandem wing of equal span. The nacelles with screws (driven by shafts and gearboxes located at the junction with the fuselage in the front part and above the fuselage in the tail section of the turboprop engines) were installed at the ends of the wing, which could rotate up to 90 degrees, thus providing a vertical takeoff.

Judging by the numbers, it was planned to use an AI-20 as the power plant. In order not to make the screws larger in diameter, it was decided to use screws of the coaxial scheme. The plane was supposed to be used as a transport. Before the practical implementation of the case did not come.

Be-32 military transport (USSR 1970)

In particular, in 1970, a project of a convertoplan with a rotating wing was proposed - a short-take-off and military landing Be-32 military transport aircraft. True, it was still not a convertiplane in its full sense - the wing could turn in a vertical plane only at an angle of 15°, while the main work on creating lift during vertical takeoff and landing was assigned to four RD36-35 FV turbofan engines installed in the wing on 2900 kgf.
