Gangut
Pre-Dreadnought Battleship
The first major victory of the Russian fleet was gained on July 26 (August 9), 1714, near Gangut. On August 9 Russia celebrates the Day of Military Glory of Russia - Day of a victory in the Battle of Gangut - the first in the Russian history naval victory of the Russian fleet over the Swedes at Cape Gangut. Peter the Great was awarded the "Vice-Admiral" title for successful guidance of a battle and for his personal participation in boarding operation.
