Project 705A
In parallel with work on the 667A project in 1964-1965. SKB-143 in a range of D-5 under the leadership of V. Borisov-based high-speed torpedo boats pr.705 was being developed SSBN pr. 687 (705B) with a displacement of 4200 tons. The works on this program were terminated after the completion of preliminary design.
In 1962, on the basis of the project 705 fast torpedo submarine reactor in the liquid metal coolant in the SKB-143 was performed predeskizny Project 705A boats equipped with antiship complex with underwater launch "Amethyst".
Six inclined containers with cruise missiles intended to place in the developed fencing felling "Limousine" and forms the top of the additional compartment, "embedded" in rugged boats to reactor compartment. The remaining elements of the structure and arms ofthe 705A project almost completely repeated the relevant elements of the project 705. However, in parallel with the options available to the body of a titanium alloy, considering options and a robust housing made of steel, having a much larger displacement (normal - 4,085 m³).
The Double-hulled boat, made of titanium alloy, was to be a major power plant with capacity of 40,000 hp, with a liquid metal reactor. It was provided with a pop-up rescue chamber that can accommodate the entire crew of the ship (similar pr. 705). Torpedo armament was to consist of six 533-mm torpedo tubes with 18 torpedoes ammunition.
However, work on the creation of boats 705A project did not receive practical implementation (impact delaying work on the creation of its prototype - torpedo boat 705 th project). A further continuation of this trend was the project 686. Key performance characteristics PLARK pr.705A (in the version with titanium hull) was a length overall 81 m Breadth 8 m Displacement 2385 normal m³ Immersion depth limit of 400 m full speed surfaced 8-10 knots. The rate of full 37 knots underwater. The crew of 24 people.
In the future, on the basis of the project, it was planned to create two modifications of Project 705. PLARK pr.705A would be equipped with antiship complex with underwater launch "Amethyst", and pr.705D which was to complete analog pr.705 submarines, but was equipped with a pressurized water reactor. But both boats remained in sketches.
653 project Following the experimental atomic submarine p-project 627 and equipped with one strategic long-range cruise missile p-20, developed under the leadership of S.v.ilyushin in accordance with the decision of the cm from August 17, 1956, SKB-143 in the summer of 1958 the year began designing a more powerful missile submarine 653 project, bearing not one but two CD. It was planned to build 18 serial SSGN project 653 (with completion of the new town of the entire series in 1962). Technical project was completed in the year 1959. The boat had a design similar SUBMARINE design etc. N-627 and. Two containers with missiles were placed horizontally directly over the fencing sliding devices, forming one long felling a streamlined shape. Missile containers had large dimensions and weight. To ensure the sustainability of a surface vessel was required to increase its width by three meters as compared with the draft n-627 and. At the same time, due to changes in feed water bypass boat length was slightly reduced. Improved hydrodynamics allowed, with increased displacement, keep the speed characteristics of the earlier boats. In the construction of durable chassis, it was decided to apply more solid steel, use improve nuclear reactor type stvovannyj (BM-1), instead of svincovs-acid apply Silver-zinc batteries "SP 55, five screws reduced noise levels and introduce a number of other improvements. The main armament consisted of two boats of the supersonic (3200-3500 km/h) strategic cruise missiles p-20 with a maximum range of 3500 km, bearing burn BCH 3 Mt capacity. To control the missile firing was supposed to use the "Sokol-p-653. During the launch of both CD'S boat was supposed to be on the surface no more than 10 minutes. Torpedo armament included four 533-mm and two 400-mm torpedoes- tion with ammo, respectively, four and 12 torpedoes. Start construction of SSGN 653 project anticipated in the year 1959. The first drawings of the new nuclear plant was sent to 402 in Severodvinsk in December 1958, but to build a brain vessel before acceptance and will not Lo: in February 1960, the Government decision was taken to close the program p-20 that three months led to the cessation of all work on the carriers of this CD. Some time in the Ilyushin DESIGN BUREAU prodolzhas the development of project-based p-20 protivokorabel-rocket (1800-2000 km) range of the p-22, however, soon stopped and this program (that was quite natural, since at that time it was not possible to create a reliable target acquisition system, which ensures the possibility of firing on enemy ships at such distances. Overall length 97.5 m Width 12.2 m Draught of 7.8 m Normal displacement 5250 M3 Total FL otation material 36% Maximum immersion depth is 300 m Full speed underwater progress of 22-24 knots. Project 627A
In the year 1956, it was decided to create multi-purpose "experimental submarine with jet weapons" based project 627 and the experimental nuclear submarine missile armament. The ship was intended for attacking strategic cruise missile p-20 with a nuclear charge, the design Bureau developed S.v.ilyushin, the enemy objects, both on the coast and deep in its territory. This missile nuclear submarine was designated design P-627A, and the project sought to modernize the "sea hunter" 627A to a full-fledged strategic missile cruiser.
Technical project boats u-627 and was completed by the end of the 143 SKB-1957, and at the beginning of 1958 g. work began on the development of working drawings. Originally the work was done under the direction of Chief Designer V.n. Peregudova. In 1959 the year the Chief Designer on the project, u-627 and was appointed head of the project Department SKB-143 G.j. Svetlov. The overall design of the ship, home power plant and the main equipment is not actually different from the NPS project 627A. In addition to the missile, the boat was equipped with four 533-mm and 400 mm torpedo tubes and two r-Tami (ammunition, respectively, four and six torpedoes).
The P-627A nuclear submarines were armed with a P-20 missile with a range of firing several times greater than that of ballistic missiles created at that time for submarines (at that time such weapons were still experimental). Cruise missile (or in the terminology of that time — aircraft-projectile) with a maximum range 3500 km housed in a container with a diameter of 4.6 m and 25 m in length, located on deck just beyond the fence. The launch mass of the rocket was about 30 tons.
The launch of the missile was from surface position. For this a truck with the rocket was extended from a container, which was then installed with the starting elevation angle 16° and fitted on the container. After the start of the carriages fell again and was removed in a container truck, which again germetizirovalsja, after which the boat could sink. Estimated time spent in surfaced for the missile was 6.5 minutes.
It was anticipated that the construction of the boats, Projct 627A was seen as an experiement. Then it was planned to build another 18 serial SSGN 653 project, are a further development of the prospect. N-627 and with two cruise missiles p-20. Start building boats 653 project anticipated in the year 1959. In March 1957, without waiting for the completion of works on creation of the technical project, factory No. 402 proceeded to request materials for new ship and began its construction.
The project was beautiful in theory, but in practice, a number of problems arose. The projectile (the OKB-240 development) was vulnerable to enemy air defenses, in addition, to launch it the newly-made missile cruiser was supposed to surface. It seems that it's not a difficult matter to come up, roll out a cart with a rocket from the container to the carriage, fasten it, run it, remove the carriage and cart, close the lid and dive. Only 6.5 minutes. On the other hand, this time is not short, considering the radars of the enemy fleet and the speed of naval aviation.
This project was never meant to be realized. However, in 1960, the Navy changed its. guidance relevant to strategic cruise missiles, which were found to be not viable due to improve anti-aircraft potential enemy. In addition, attempts to place on the ship strategic cruise missiles in the traditional approach to solving design challenges led to increased mass and dimensions of starting equipment.
In the beginning of 1960, the P-20 missile system was recognized as having lost its promise, and the work on the construction of the P-627A missile submarine was suspended. By this time the hull of the ship had already basically been formed and the installation works were in progress. Attempts were made to modify the ship in a nuclear submarine with reinforced torpedo armament (project PT-627A ). But in the end they decided not to finish the decision of the submarine, but to use its mechanisms and equipment during the construction of the last serial submarine of the project 627A-K-50.
