The ship should enter the Russian fleet at the end of 2016, the launch of the ship will take place in 2015.

Both ships - the vessels of the project 20180TV and 20183 - became registered. The first of them was named "Academician Kovalev". This was how the memory of the outstanding domestic designer of nuclear strategic submarines SN Kovalyov was immortalized. The second was named "Academician Aleksandrov". This was how the memory of one of the founding fathers of the modern Russian nuclear submarine fleet, AP Aleksandrov, was immortalized. The initiative to assign these names to ships belonged to the labor collectives of the Central Design Bureau "Almaz", CDB MT "Rubin" and the Ship Repair Center "Zvezdochka".

The ships of the projects 20180, 20180TV and 20183 have special hull contours and a reinforced construction with ice protection that allows them to work in the northern seas. Due to these features, the ships of this project are less demanding in terms of working conditions compared to ships belonging to previous projects. Compared with analogues of previous generations, new vessels have increased seaworthiness, increased carrying capacity and seaworthiness, and a large volume of internal premises. They are also able to ensure the safe transport of special types of naval weapons in conditions of maximum safety for people and the environment.

The ships of this project are equipped with two diesel-electric power units "Shorh" KL6538B-AS06 at 3625 hp. each, as well as four diesel generators of 1680 kW and two generators of 1080 kW. The propellers of the vessel are two fixed-pitch propellers on the VRK and two bow thrusters. The maximum speed is 14 knots, the economic mode of travel is 9 knots. All the ships are equipped with a platform from which the Ka-27 helicopter can take off and take off.

It is a basic project designed to carry out search and rescue operations. It has a displacement of 5,500 tons and a classic hull configuration. The total length of the ship is 96 meters, the maximum width is 17.9 meters. The hull of the ship has a distinctive tank and a superstructure above it, on which the helipad is located. The greatest draft of the ship is 9.3 meters. The crew includes up to 70 people. The vessel is equipped with equipment designed to tow other ships, as well as three cargo cranes, two of which are located at the stern of the vessel and have a lifting capacity of 80 tons each, the height of their boom lift is 4.5 to 19 meters. With their help, it is possible to carry out loading and unloading operations or to launch and launch water rescue vehicles.

On the basis of the base ship of the project 20180, the naval arms transportation was created, which received the code 20180TV (20181). Ships of this type also have a classic layout. The length of the ship at the same time was increased to 107.6 meters while maintaining the same maximum width of the ship - 17.9 meters. The displacement of the ship due to the lengthening of the hull has grown to 6300 tons. The ship has one crane with a carrying capacity of 120 tons, towing equipment on the ship is missing. Before the superstructure there is a small tank, the crew - 60 people. According to some reports, the ship can be used to provide the latest Russian strategic nuclear submarine cruisers of the Borey project with intercontinental ballistic missiles Bulava.

The rescue tug of the project 20183 resembles the size of the main vessel of the project 20180. The main visual difference of this project is a tank, which is made in closed form without a separate deck, where the tank lining reaches the superstructure of the ship and connects to its bottom wall. The vessel's displacement is 5400 tons, there are two cranes of different carrying capacity on board. The crew of the ship consists of about 65 people. Due to the use of a universal set of equipment, vessels have very wide opportunities to solve a variety of auxiliary tasks and can both transport various cargoes in the internal volumes of their hulls and carry out loading and unloading operations on their own.
