Project 03183 [ex Project 23310] ice-rated supply ship
New ice-rated supply ships of project 03183 are designed in the interests of the Arctic grouping of the Russian Navy. The delivery of the first ships was expected in 2020, captain of the first rank Andrey Vernigorathe director of the Department for Ensuring the State Defense Order of the Ministry of Defense told reporters. "In the near future, designing ice-class vessels of project 03183 will begin in the interests of the Arctic Navy. Design and construction is envisaged by the program of military shipbuilding, approximately by 2020, "he said. However, Vernigora did not specify the characteristics of the ships and the specific tasks that they are to solve.
The vessel can be claimed not only by the Navy, but also by the Coast Guard of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, as well as enterprises engaged in the extraction of natural resources in the Arctic, supply and security of production platforms.
It can be noted that the important "Arctic" task (and Russian experts today are talking about the "unfolding battle for the Arctic") was entrusted to the Zelenodolsk PKB for a reason. The Bureau brilliantly coped with the previous "northern" project associated with the creation of the world's largest and most powerful icebreaker (project 22220 LK-60Ya). Interestingly, a kind of continuation has already been envisaged for the 03182 project. In early June 2016, the director of the department for ensuring the state defense order of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian FederationAndrey Vernigora said that the military shipbuilding program provides for the design and construction of ice-class auxiliary vessels of project 03183. They are intended for use by naval sailors in the Arctic zone. “This is a project specifically for the Arctic grouping of troops,” Glukhov notes. The design should be completed by 2018. Previously, the designer was not named, but, according to Volkov, project 03183 is also the topic of the ZPKB.
The design and construction of ice-class auxiliary vessels of project 03183 is provided for by the Russian naval shipbuilding program. On June 10, 2016, the director of the department for ensuring the state defense order of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Caparang A. Vernigora, told reporters about this. New military ships of complex supply are intended for use by the Russian Navy in the Arctic zone.
The development of these vessels would be starting soon. By 2018, the design will be completed, and by 2020 - the construction of the lead vessel of project 03183. The characteristics of the project were not initially announced.
Recall that in December 2015, the RF Federation Council commissioned an auxiliary armament transport Akademik Kovalev of the reinforced ice class of project 20180TV. Obviously, the vessels of project 03183, with a slight modernization with an emphasis on OSR equipment, can also be used as auxiliary vessels for the Arctic oil and gas of the Russian Federation, which perform similar functions and are similar in design, such as, for example, the Aleut Gazprom transport and tug vessel (TBS) oil.
The need for auxiliary vessels for operations on the continental shelf of the Arctic is great. While such ships are being built abroad, including at the Russian shipyard in Helsinki. For comparison, the deadweight of the Aleut TBS is 2,600 tons, the length is 86.7 m, the width is 19.5 m, the draft is 7.25 m, the power is 14 MW, the crew is 16 members. The parameters of the military TBS will probably be similar. It is likely that 2 full-turn Azipod propellers will be installed for better maneuvering.
