FANTAN Variants - Q-5D / Q-5J / Q-5K / Q-5KLJ

  1. Q-5D was developed after the Q-5M was discontinued in 1989, on the Q-5C foundation, and first flew in 1990. The People's Liberation Army once planned upgrades that the Q-5M used, but for various reasons, such as shortage of funds, had not implemented. The Q-5D electronic installation's improvement take two central digital computers and a double redundancy data bus as the core, with addition modernization of the guidance and the attack system. The new sensing installation and the equipment including inertial navigation system, collimated display, atmosphere electrodata machine, three degree-of-freedom cluster of gyros, the distance-measuring radar, the RW-30 radar security receiver, the attitude indicator, the horizontal situation indicator, the static converter and the modality meet the regulator, but also has the new hardware with 8 item of original device attachment interface equipment which retains.   3. Q-5K Kong Yun: (Kong Yun - Cloud) was a joint Chinese-French project to further upgrade Q-5II with Sa Jim company's French Thomsen Company avionics. This included the as VE110 collimated head-Up Display, ULIS91 inertial navigation system, TMV630 laser rangefinder and other electro-optics. Like the Q-5M/A-5M, the project was also cancelled after the Tiananmen Square protest of 1989. The test flight of this machine in 1991 was successful.

  4. Q-5KLJ ? is a variant of unknown designation displayed in mockup in April 2008 by the Nanjing Electronic technology Research institute. The model airborne weapon carries had a new look, as on its wing tip were two air-to-air missiles, under the underbelly also increased two row of weapon racks, with four un-guided bombs. The model nose demonstrated that this machine will equip the KLJ-7 fire control radar. It used the Q-5 improved with the domestically produced KLJ-7 radar.
