After the first batch of 01 frigates were put into service, the Chinese Navy had planned to modify the design and continue construction of the ship. The modification plan included changing the double 37 guns to double 57 guns. However, since China introduced the design drawings of the Soviet "56" destroyer, the navy decided that the steam turbine ship would still be guided by the destroyer.
