The Type 01 frigate is a long-deck ship with a normal displacement of 1,226 tons. This type of ship had three 100mm guns, which were arranged in the front two and one after the other, emphasizing the frontal firepower. However, it is precisely because of the side aisle below, that this type of ship can no longer be retrofitted to 37 mm automatic guns that need to penetrate the deck to install automatic loaders and magazines. The ship is China's first medium-sized surface ship equipped with various radars. The FUN-N alert radar on the ship can reach a range of 55 kilometers for low-altitude targets, about 30 kilometers for cruisers and destroyers, and about 10 kilometers for targets such as torpedo boats.
This was a good standard in the 1950s. From a technical point of view, this type of ship is fully equipped with anti-ship, air defense, and anti-submarine equipment, as well as more advanced radar and sonar equipment at that time. It was the first fully equipped modern combat ship of the Chinese Navy.
