Belarus Army - Northwest Operational Command

In 1993, the 7th Tank Army was renamed the 7th Army Corps as part of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, and in 1994 - the 65th Army Corps. On December 25, 2001, the 65th Army Corps was transformed into the Northwest Operational Command.

In the Republic of Belarus, the Ground Forces are the most numerous and versatile in combat composition of the Armed Forces. They have great fire and shock power, high maneuverability and independence. The ground forces are designed to meet the challenges of repelling enemy strikes and defeating them if they unleash aggression. Using the defense capabilities, the Ground Forces are able to effectively fight the ground and air enemy in cooperation with the Air Force and air defense forces. Ground forces consist of the armed forces (forces) and special forces. The types of troops and special troops, depending on the nature of the tasks performed, have their own armament, military equipment and organization.

On October 22, 1942, by order of the General Headquarters of the Supreme Front as part of the Don Front, the 65th Army was formed on the basis of the 4th Panzer Army. From that time until the end of the Great Patriotic War, its permanent commander was the most experienced Soviet general Pavel Ivanovich Batov, under whose leadership the 65th Army passed the military way from Stalingrad to East Prussia and Rostock. In the course of the Stalingrad strategic defensive operation at the end of October - the first half of November 1942, the 65th Army, in cooperation with other armies, conducted active hostilities on the right bank of the Don, holding the bridgehead previously captured and shackling enemy forces attacking Stalingrad from the north. With the transition of the Soviet troops to the counteroffensive, in cooperation with other armies, it formed the internal front of the encirclement of the German forces at Stalingrad and until January 10, 1943, blocked it from the northwest.

In January - early February 1943, she participated in the offensive operation “Ring” of the Don Front to eliminate the enemy’s surrounded grouping. After the end of the Battle of Stalingrad, in early February 1943 the army was withdrawn to the Supreme Command Headquarters reserve and then redeployed to the Oryol sector. From February 15, 1943, the 65th Army was included in the newly created Central (from October 20, 1943 - Belorussky) front and in its composition in February-March attacked the Sevsk direction.

In the Battle of Kursk during the defensive battle, defending on a broad front, repelled an enemy strike from the Sevsk region. In late August - September 1943, the army took part in the Chernigov-Pripyat operation, during which it forced the Desna and Sozh rivers, liberated the city of Sevsk and in cooperation with the 48th army - Novgorod-Seversky. In October, resuming the offensive, the 65th Army crossed the Dnieper and, in cooperation with the 61st Army, captured a bridgehead on the right bank of the river in the Loyev region.

In the summer of 1944, the 65th Army took part in the offensive operation "Bagration". Participating in the Belarusian strategic operation, which began on June 23, 1944, the 65th Army as part of the 1st Belarusian Front solved the most difficult tasks of liberating the cities of Bobruisk, Slutsk, Nesvizh, Baranovichi, Osipovichi, Old Roads, Parichi.

In the course of the Lublin-Brest operation, the army, in cooperation with the 48th and 28th armies, defeated part of the forces of the German 2nd Army north of Brest and at the end of July 1944 reached the Western Bug River. Continuing the offensive, its forces forced the Western Bug in August, and in early September captured a bridgehead on the Narev River, from which, in cooperation with neighboring armies, they successfully conducted an operation to defeat the German fascist troops in East Prussia and liberated the city of Nasselk, ration, plonsk Brodnica, as well as more than 800 other localities.

In January-April 1945, the army, as part of the 2nd Belorussian Front, took part in the Mlavsko-Elbing and East-Pomeranian strategic operations. The army ended its combat mission by participating in the Berlin strategic operation, during which it rapidly crossed the Oder south of Stettin (Szczecin) and, developing an offensive in the direction of Friedland-Demmin, reached the Baltic Sea coast on the island of Rügen, where the last volley against the enemy was fired army.

During the years of the Great Patriotic War, the 65th Army, headed by the permanent commander Pavel Ivanovich Batov, fought 3,525 kilometers from the Volga to the Baltic, constantly being in the first echelon of the operational offensive of the front, liberating more than 2.5 thousand from the Nazi invaders settlements, overcame 70 water lines.

After the end of hostilities from June 10, 1945, the army protected the Baltic Sea coast as part of the Northern Group of Forces. In April 1946, the field control of the 65th Army was reorganized into the field control of the 7th Mechanized Army, and in February 1947 into the management of 7 separate personnel tank divisions as part of the Northern Group of Forces. In 1948, the management of the 7th separate personnel tank division became part of the Belarusian Military District and was redeployed to the city of Borisov, and in 1949 it was reorganized into the management of the 7th mechanized army. In 1957, the 7th Mechanized Army was renamed the tank army.

For selfless martial labor of generals, officers, sergeants and army soldiers, both in wartime and in peacetime, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1974, the 7th Panzer Army was awarded the Order of the "Red Flag". For good results in military training in peacetime, 9 units and units of the army were awarded the Medal of the CPSU Central Committee, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet and the Council of Ministers of the USSR. A number of units and units of the army were awarded the pennant of the Minister of Defense of the USSR "For courage and military valor."
