Typhon DLGN Specifications
The Scheme H Typhon ["Full Cruiser"] was the most powerfully armed Typhon proposal put forth, with four Typhon launchers and a massive 10,000 element SPG-59, as well as full flag facilities. Scheme F Typhon DLGN of 1961 deleted the third Typhon MR launcher and used the smaller 3,400 element SPG-59, which sort of left you wondering why they placed a weapon (Typhon LR) which could not be used to it's maximum efficiency on this hull. SCB 227 of September 1961 was another attempt by BuShips to produce a Typhon-equipped ship that was satisfactory to McNamara. The hull was lengthened to allow her to reach the required 30 knot speed for a fleet AAW escort. SCB 240.65 for FY 65 was BuShip's final effort to get a Typhon-equipped ship built. DASH Capability was deleted from this version. When McNamara refused to build it, the Typhon program finally died.
