- Car Bomb Explodes on Airport Road, Three Soldiers Wounded MNF-I/MNC-I 18 Sep 2004 -- Three Task Force Baghdad Soldiers were wounded when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated at about 3:30 p.m. on the road leading to Baghdad International Airport from central Baghdad.
- IED Explodes in Central Baghdad, Wounds Three Iraqi Civilians MNF-I/MNC-I 18 Sep 2004 -- An improvised explosive device detonated at about 10 a.m. Sept. 18 in central Baghdad.
- Mortar attack wounds 11 civilians in Baqubah MNF-I/MNC-I 18 Sep 2004 -- At approximately 9 a.m., anti-Iraqi forces attacked Iraqi National Guard and Iraqi Police personnel with mortar fire as they responded to investigate a report of an improvised explosive device.

- 24TH MEU UNCOVERS WEAPONS CACHE IN NORTHERN BABIL CENTCOM 18 Sep 2004 -- Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit uncovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition on Sept. 16, after stopping to investigate a suspected improvised explosive device in the vicinity of Iskandariyah.
- TRIPARTE COMMISSION 8TH MEETING CENTCOM 18 Sep 2004 -- The Tripartite Commission, composed of senior military and diplomatic representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United States, held its eighth meeting in Kabul today.

- Transfer of Detainees Completed 18 Sep 2004 -- The Department of Defense announced today that it transferred 35 detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This transfer included 29 to the control of Pakistan for continued detention and six to Pakistan for release. This transfer increases the number of detainees who have departed GTMO to 191.
- Wasp ESG Ships Return From Deployment Navy NewsStand 18 Sep 2004 -- Nearly 2,500 Sailors reunited with family and friends Sept. 18 when the remaining three ships from the USS Wasp (LHD 1) Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG 2) returned from a seven-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terrorism.
- EUROPE/POLICE VOA 18 Sep 2004 -- Five European Union countries have agreed to set up a new defense body that can be deployed in European and other countries to help with crisis management.
- BUSH/UN VOA 18 Sep 2004 -- President Bush will focus on Iraq and Afghanistan in a speech at the United Nations this week. The president used his weekly radio address to preview those remarks.

- Security Council Supports Increased Monitoring in Darfur Washington File 18 Sep 2004 -- Pressing for more aid to Darfur, the Security Council September 18 adopted a resolution endorsing an enlarged, "proactive" African Union (AU) mission in Darfur and launching a genocide investigation by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan.
- Darfur Urgent Issue for U.S., Danforth Says Washington File 18 Sep 2004 -- U.S. President George Bush sent a message to the Security Council September 18 saying that "Darfur is a catastrophe the council should address on an urgent basis," U.S. Ambassador John Danforth said.
- Security Council Asks for Genocide Investigation in Darfur Washington File 18 Sep 2004 -- The Security Council September 18 adopted a second resolution on Darfur calling for an international investigation into reports of genocide.
- UN/SUDAN RESOLUTION VOA 18 Sep 2004 -- The U.N. Security Council has approved a resolution threatening oil sanctions against Sudan unless it halts atrocities in Darfur. The resolution also orders an investigation into charges that the terror in Darfur constitutes genocide.
- WFP/LIBERIA VOA 18 Sep 2004 -- The United Nations World Food Program warns thousands of Liberians could face starvation, if international donors do not urgently provide six-point-six-million dollars for food relief. A W.F.P. official says the organization has been forced to cut food rations for lack of funds.
