Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 101
MIUW Unit 101
"Shield of the Fleet, Anytime, Anyplace"

MIUW Unit 101 is a commissioned, hardware equipped component of the Navy's Force Protection Package, providing seaward security, surveillance and communication support for commanders operating in littoral areas worldwide.

MIUWU 101 is a very unique Naval Reserve unit, staffed with the most technically capable and devoted personnel. Professions include:

  • Mechanical and vehicle repair for mobile camp equipment and Civil Engineering Support Equipment
  • Self sustaining support such as food service, store keeping, administration and communication
  • Self defense capabilities provided by unit personnel on small arms and crew service weapons
  • Operations and communication specialists with additional capabilities in special warfare and subsurface surveillance

The blue, gold and white on the shield represents both the Navy and the USA. The blue regions symbolize the oceans of the world upon which the Navy defends our freedom. The gold stars correspond to the five US Naval Fleets, one for each, and the 6th star for our homeland. Overall, the shield is the symbol of our Naval Forces worldwide and the home that we protect.

The trident on the crest, a common symbol of strength and defense, signifies our ability to project force through external assets such as Inshore Boat Units or our own organic self-defense. The lightning bolt, striking without warning, represents both the ability to mobilize and deploy in an expeditionary fashion, as well as the various technologies used in the mission of surveillance and communication. The giant red octopus, a native of Puget Sound and the Everett, WA region, signifies the coordination between numerous organizations and technologies in the support of our mission of command and control. Finally, the triangular and circular shape of the Crest draws a connection to the roots of Naval Coastwatchers, Inshore Undersea Warfare, and ultimately Naval Coastal Warfare.
