IBU 17

Inshore Boat Units are part of the Naval Coastal Warfare team. Inshore Boat Unit 17 supplies men and boats to conduct antiterrorism operations for U.S. maritime assets in littoral regions world-wide. These operations include force protection, harbor defense, protection of Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF) ships, and coordination with Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Units (MIUW) for surveillance operations.

IBU 17 was deployed to Guam in October 2001. The unit's 35 men and women provided additional security at Apra Harbor in Piti and at other harbors as well. The unit returned in April 2002.
