Helicopter Tactical Wing, US Atlantic Fleet [COMHELTACWINGLANT]
[Helicopter Tactical Wing ONE]
In April of 2005, Helicopter Tactical Wing, Atlantic Fleet [HELTACWINGLANT] and Helicopter Anti-Submarine Wing, Atlantic Fleet [HSWINGLANT] were merged into Helicopter Sea Combat Wing, Atlantic Fleet [HELSEACOMBATWINGLANT]. This merger was a result of the Navy moving toward a reduction in aircraft types.
Helicopter Tactical Wing, Atlantic Fleet [COMHELTACWINGLANT] is homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. The wing's six squadrons, HC-2, HC-4, HC-6, HC-8, HM-14, and VC-6, perform logistic, minesweeping and unmanned aerial surveillance missions with all air and surface units of the United States Navy. Helicopter Tactical Wing, U.S. Atlantic Fleet was established on 10 October 1982, at Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Virginia. As a Type Wing organization, COMHELTACWINGLANT reports directly to COMNAVAIRLANT, and has operational and administrative responsibilities for the material support, training, and overall readiness of seven squadrons and the Airborne Mine Countermeasures Weapon Systems Training School. COMHELTACWINGLANT squadrons operate a multitude of aircraft and equipment including VH-3A, UH-3H, CH-46D, HH-46D, UH-46D, MH-53E, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and aerial and surface targets.
