Fleet Composite Squadron SIX [VC-6]
"Firebees"
VC-6 operates the Navy's only operational Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). This aircraft is utilized primarily in reconnaissance missions while being controlled by VC-6 personnel onboard Navy vessels. Tactical employment of this unique asset primarily supports both Battle Group deployments and Amphibious Warfare Operations.
The BQM-74E Aerial Targets are operated by deployable detachments located at FCTC Dam Neck, VA. The BQM-74E provides dynamic airborne threat simulation and supports the Fleet worldwide. The target can simulate aircraft or cruise missiles in a variety of threat profiles. The Drone Launch/Recovery Vessel, RETRIEVER (DLR-3) is VC-6's highly versatile 100 foot vessel. Operated by a seasoned crew, she can support local or extended underway periods. The "Retriever" may also be used as a terrorist boat during various fleet training operations off the East Coast.
QST-35 Seaborne Powered Targets (SEPTAR) are operated by deployable detachments from NAB Little Creek, VA. The 56 foot QST-35 can simulate a medium to high speed patrol boat. The SEPTAR may be operated manually or by remote control and may be augmented actively or passively. QST-33 SEPTAR's are operated by a deployable detachment from NAS Norfolk, VA. The 18 foot QST-33 can simulate a high speed target to train crews in surface to surface and air to surface weapons firings. Operated manually or by remote control, the QST-33 can be augmented to simulate small boat threats during exercises.
