41st Transportation Company (PLS)
"Out Front"
In 2007, as part of the reorganization and redesignation of the 16th Corps Support Group as the 16th Sustainment Brigade and its subsequent realignment under 21st Theater Sustainment Command, US Army Europe (USAEUR), the 181st Transportation Battalion was inactivated. The 41st Trasnportation Company (Palletized Load System), "Out Front," was subsequently reassigned to the 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion.
The mission of the 41st Transportaion Company (Palletized Load System) had previously been to provide truck transportation for containerized and palletized cargo in support of V Corps units and others as directed. It would, on order, deploys or redeploys to support V Corps units and others as directed. It would then establish a company area of operations to conduct/sustain transportation support, provide force protection, and defend truck transportation or assigned areas as required.
The 41st Transportation Company (PLS) was first constituted on 1 May 1936 in the Regular Army as Company C, 1st Battalion, 49th Quartermaster Regiment. it was activated on 1 April 1942 at Berkeley, California, as Company C, 1st Battalion, 49th Quartermaster Truck Regiment. It was reorganized and redesignated on 16 December 1943 as the 3543d Quartermaster Truck Company. The unit particiapted in in 4 campaigns during the Second World War: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. After the Second World War, the unit was inactivated on 25 June 1946 in France.
While inactive, the unit was converted and redesignated on 1 August 1946 as the 3543rd Transportation Corps Truck Company. It was redesignated on 6 March 1947 as the 41st Transportation Corps Truck Company and activated on 15 April 1947 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. The Company was redesignated on 7 July 1947 as the 41st Transportation Truck Company. The Company was reorganized and redesignated on 5 June 1953 as the 41st Transportation Company.
The Company was inactivated on 15 September 1995 in Germany. It was reactivated on 16 September 1998 in Germany.
In March of 2003, the Company deployed to Iraq for 12 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 41st Transportation Company subsequently deployed 2 additional times to Iraq in 2005 and 2007.
As of 2010, the Company was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
