112th Military Police Battalion

The 112th Military Police Battalion is a combat military police battalion, and is tasked with performing police actions and disaster support, as well as clearing mines, protecting travel routes and providing security at established bases.

The 112th Military Police Battalion was originally constituted in April 1917 in the Mississippi National Guard as Company A, Mississippi Engineers. It was organized and mustered into federal service on 26 June 1917 at Camp Jackson, MS; drafted into federal service on 5 August 1917. It reorganized and was redesignated on 27 September 1917 as Company A, 114th Engineer Regiment, an element of the 39th Division. It demobilized on 21 May 1919 at Camp Shelby, MS.

The unit was expanded and reorganized between 1921-1924 in the Mississippi National Guard as the 114th Engineer Regiment (less 2nd Battalion allotted to the Florida National Guard) and assigned to the 39th Division; Headquarters was federally recognized on 9 June 1922 at Drew. It was redesignated on 29 January 1924 as the 106th Engineer Regiment (less 2nd Battalion allotted to the Florida National Guard); and was concurrently relieved from assignment to the 39th Division and assigned to the 31st Division (later redesignated as the 31st Infantry Division).

Headquarters relocated on 2 July 1925 to Jackson. The unit was inducted into federal service on 25 November 1940 at home stations. It was reorganized and redesignated (less 2nd Battalion) on 26 February 1942 as the 106th Engineer Battalion (2nd Battalion, 106th Engineer Regiment - hereafter separate lineage). It was redesignated on 1 August 1942 as the 106th Engineer Combat Battalion. It inactivated on 21 December 1945 at Camp Stoneman, CA.

It was expanded between 1947-1950 to form the 106th Engineer Combat Battalion (106th Engineer Combat Battalion (106th Engineer Combat Battalion - hereafter separate lineage). The 114th Engineer Combat Battalion was organized and federally recognized on 23 January 1950 with Headquarters at Jackson. It was ordered into active federal service on 11 September 1950 at home stations (the 114th Engi8neer Combat Battalion [NGUS] was organized and federally recognized on 26 September 1952 with Headquarters at Jackson; redesignated on 1 March 1953 as the 114th Engineer Battalion. It was released on 17 January 1955 from active federal service and reverted to state control; federal recognition was concurrently withdrawn from teh 114th Engineer Battalion (NGUS).

Headquarters, 114th Engineer Battalion, reorganized and was redesignated on 1 May 1959 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 114th Engineer Battalion (remainder of the 114th Engineer Battalion - hereafter separate lineage). Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 114th Engineer Battalion, reorganized and was redesignated on 4 January 1960 as Headquarters, Headquarters and Service Company, 114th Engineer Battalion (its organic elements were concurrently organized from existing units). The 114th Engineer Battalion was ordered into active federal service on 30 September 1962 at home station; released on 5 October 1962 from active federal service and reverted to state control.

Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 114th Engineer Battalion converted and was redesignated on 1 May 1963 as Headquarters and headquarters Detachment, 112th Military Police Battalion (the remainder of the 114th Engineer Battalion - hereafter separate lineage).

The Battalion provided support in the disaster relief effort following after the Easter flood in 1979, Hurricane Elena in 1989, Hurricane Frederick in 1985 and the Delta's winter storm of 1993-94. The unit also deployed to the Persian Gulf as part of Operations Desert Shield/Storm. While there, the unit provided security for coalition troops, bases and travel routes.

As of mid-1998, two subordinate units of the 112th MP Battalion had deployed in support of troops stationed in Germany as part of Operation Joint Endeavor to aid in peacekeeping duties in the Bosnian region.
