The mission of the 10th BN (CGSC) is to provide Command and General Staff College (CGSC) instruction in TASS Region G which includes Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The purpose of CGSC is to educate leaders in the values and practice of the profession of arms, to act as the executive agent for the Army's Leader Development Program, to develop doctrine that guides the Army and to promote and support the advancement of military art and science. The battalion instructs students from the Army Reserve, National Guard and Active Component. The 10th BN was activated on 1 September 1996 in Tempe, Arizona. The battalion assumed the Command and General Staff Officer's Course (CGSOC) mission of the twelve USARF Schools to become a member of the newly formed Total Army School System (TASS). During its first year, the battalion conducted over 40 classes and trained over 500 officers. The battalion received its accreditation from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in 1998 and continues to set the standard for professional officer education throughout the Army.
