1st Battalion, 14th Aviation Regiment
"Tomahawks"
The 1st Battalion, 14th Aviation Regiment conducts pilot and instructor pilot training in the OH-58D(I) Kiowa Warrior, AH-64A Apache, and AH-64D Longbow Apache. Previously, the Battalion, based at Hanchey Army Heliport, Fort Rucker, Alabama, had provided advanced flight training for US and allied pilots in the OH-58D, AH-64A, and AH-64D aircraft. 1st Battalion, 14th Aviation Regiment had conducted graduate flight instruction in the AH-64A, AH-64D, and OH-58(I) to produce technically competent aviation soldiers.
As of 2000, the Battalion's Mission Essential Task List included: Conduct Aviator Qualification and Instructor Pilot training in the AH-64A, AH-64D, and OH-58D(I); conduct AH-64D Longbow maintenance training at Mesa, Arizona; operate Molinelli Aerial Gunnery Range complex; conduct base operations at Hanchey Army Heliport and Mesa, Arizona; protect the force; and prepare for and conduct contingency operations.
As of 2000, the Battalion consisted of a Battalion Headquarters and 4 companise, A Company responsible for AH-64D training, C Company responsible for OH-58D(I) training, D Company responsible for AH-64A training, and a Support Company.
