- Cease-Fire Holds In Al-Fallujah, Three More U.S. Soldiers Killed RFE/RL 12 Apr 2004 -- An informal cease-fire between Sunni Muslim insurgents and U.S. Marines held overnight in the besieged city of Al-Fallujah west of Iraq's capital Baghdad.
- U.S. Forces Poised In Al-Fallujah As Delegates Continue To Broker Talks RFE/RL 12 Apr 2004 -- U.S. Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt said today that 70 U.S.-led coalition troops and about 700 Iraqi insurgents have been killed in fighting across Iraq since the start of the month, but that he has no "authoritative figure" on the number of Iraqi civilian deaths.
- IRAQ/CEASE-FIRE VOA 12 Apr 2004 -- Negotiations continued in Iraq Monday aimed at shoring up a cease-fire that began Sunday in the violence-ridden city of Fallujah. However, there has been sporadic gunfire in and around the city.

- Iraqis Hold Key to Legitimizing Their Own Security Forces AFPS 12 Apr 2004 -- Iraqis, not the U.S. military, will ultimately solve security problems within their country, the top American general in the region said today.
- JAPAN/IRAQ HOSTAGES VOA 12 Apr 2004 -- Vice President Dick Cheney has promised Japan's prime minister the United States will do all it can to help free three Japanese held hostage in Iraq. Mr. Cheney made the pledge during a meeting in Tokyo.

- IRAQ: More than one million mines and UXOs removed in north IRIN 12 Apr 2004 -- More than a million mines and items of unexploded ordnance (UXOs) have been cleared since July 2003 from northern Iraq by the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), a British NGO, operating in the country for more than a decade.
