  • Iraq: Two Americans Killed In Mosul RFE/RL 01 Nov 2003 -- Two Americans were killed and two others were wounded today when a roadside bomb exploded in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. It was not immediately clear whether the victims were U.S. soldiers or civilians.

  • Germany to send elite commandos to Iraq to protect aid workers IRNA 01 Nov 2003 -- Germany will send its elite anti-terror GSG-9 commandos to Iraq in an effort to protect German aid workers in Iraq following the latest series of deadly attacks against international relief organizations in the war-stricken country, DPA quoted an Interior Ministry spokeswoman as saying Saturday.

  • Powell Sees Steady Economic, Political Progress in Iraq Washington File 01 Nov 2003 -- Although Baghdad and nearby areas remain dangerous, Iraq continues to make steady progress in restoring its economy and building a free and independent government, Secretary of State Colin Powell said in a television interview on October 31.
  • BUSH/IRAQ VOA 01 Nov 2003 -- Six months after he declared an end to major combat in Iraq, President Bush says U-S troops will continue their mission there, despite daily attacks. The president used his weekly radio address to try to focus on the positives in Iraq.

  • IRAQ/BREMER VOA 01 Nov 2003 -- The U-S administrator in Iraq is promising to accelerate efforts to hand over control of Iraq to the Iraqi people. He also said he believes Saddam Hussein is alive and in Iraq, but it is unclear if the ousted leader is organizing the current spate of attacks.
