The site was located south of Al Kut, approximately 100 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. EST.
- COALITION AIRCRAFT DROP LEAFLETS IN SOUTHERN IRAQ 16 Dec 2002-- Coalition aircraft dropped 480,000 leaflets at about 4 a.m. EST today over southern Iraq.
- Air and Space Expeditionary Forces Rotate into Operation Northern Watch 16 Dec 2002-- More than 1,000 airmen are replacing Operation Northern Watch veterans as the Air and Space Expeditionary Force system performs its regular three-month rotation from late November through the first part of December.
- MURHAF JOUEJATI ON IRAQ VOA 16 Dec 2002-- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has discussed Iraq in talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in London and concluded that war with Baghdad can be avoided. The Syrian leader told reporters he sees good cooperation from the Iraqi government. Mr. Blair says Britain and Syria did not agree on how to deal with Iraq, but that he believes engagement with Syria is the right way toward a resolution.
